Audrey's POV:

"Who's there?" Caspar's commanding voice echoed through the silence.

I froze, feeling Clara's fingers dig into my arm.

Before we realized and ran away.

The door swung open fully, revealing Caspar's imposing figure.

When he saw us, he softened his cold gaze.

Behind him, Finley and Ethan exchanged glances.

"I told you both to wait upstairs," Caspar said, his tone surprisingly measured.

I lifted my chin, summoning every ounce of composure I possessed.

"We were concerned about what was happening."

Clara stepped forward, her voice small.

"It was my idea. I insisted we come down."

She cast an apologetic glance at Finley. "I'm sorry."

Finley's expression softened immediately.

"It's alright. Though I suspect you might have heard everything."

"I need to get to the hospital," Ethan said abruptly, checking his watch. "If what Kevin said is true, I need to access those records immediately."

"It's too late today; going to the hospital now won't accomplish anything." Finley pointed out reasonably.

Ethan's shoulders slumped, frustration evident in his expression.

He ran a hand through his hair, clearly struggling with the idea of waiting even one more day after twenty-seven years of searching.

"The hospital isn't going anywhere," Caspar said, his tone gentle.

"The records will still be there tomorrow morning, and you'll have a clearer head to process whatever you find."

Ethan took a deep breath and nodded.

"You're right. Thank you for everything today." He cast one final glance at Kevin before turning to leave.

Clara stepped closer to me.

"I'll stay with Audrey tonight. "

I shook my head quickly, knowing she was worried about me.

"That's not necessary. I'm perfectly fine."

"Are you sure?" Her eyes were wide with concern.

"Absolutely." I managed a reassuring smile.

"Go home with Finley. I just need some quiet time to think."

Kevin's voice broke through our conversation.

"So... can I go now? I have revealed everything I know."

We all turned to look at him, almost having forgotten his presence.

Caspar's expression hardened as he turned to face Kevin.

"No, you're not simply walking away after what you've done," Caspar stated coldly.

He gestured to one of his security personnel who had been standing silently by the door.

"Take him to the police station."

Kevin's face drained of color. "But—but you promised! You said if I talked—"

"I said we'd be done with our questions," Caspar corrected him, his tone leaving no room for argument.

"I never promised immunity from the consequences of your actions."

The security guard moved forward, grabbing Kevin firmly by the arm and lifting him from the chair.

"This isn't fair!" Kevin protested as he was led away, his voice fading down the hallway.

After the others left, Caspar and I found ourselves alone in the hallway.

I forced a smile, rolling my shoulders as if shrugging off a physical weight.

"Well, that's one problem solved," I said with artificial lightness.

"At least Amy won't have to worry about him showing up again."

Caspar didn't return my smile.

He studied my face with unsettling intensity, his head tilted slightly.

"Come," he said quietly, guiding me toward his study.

"We need to talk."

Once inside, he closed the door and turned to face me. His piercing gaze seemed to cut through all my defenses.

"Do you want to be reunited with the Cole family?" he asked directly.

I stared at him, momentarily startled by his bluntness.

"I—what are you talking about? This has nothing to do with me."

"Audrey," Caspar's voice was gentle but firm.

" You and Sienna were the only confirmed cases of babies being switched at that hospital during that time period."

My throat tightened. "That doesn't mean—"

"Kevin mentioned respiratory issues. You had chronic bronchitis as a child, didn't you?"

I swallowed hard, memories of countless nights struggling to breathe flashing through my mind. "How did you know that?"

"Margaret mentioned it once."

Caspar moved closer, his eyes never leaving mine. "All the pieces fit, Audrey."

I turned away, unable to bear the weight of his gaze.

"Even if it's true, what difference does it make now? "

"Are you worried about Daisy?" he asked perceptively.

"About how she might react?"

"No," I replied too quickly. "Why would I care what she thinks?"

Caspar didn't press the point.

Instead, he said, "Ethan will find out, you know. He'll start connecting the dots as soon as he gets those hospital records."

I sank into a nearby chair, suddenly exhausted. "I know."

"Then what's holding you back?" he asked softly.

"Nothing is certain yet," I said, wrapping my arms around myself defensively.

"Without a proper DNA test, this is all just... speculation. Coincidence."

Caspar watched me carefully, his eyes searching mine.

"And if it were confirmed? Would you want to reconnect with them—become part of the Cole family?"

I shook my head, not in denial but in confusion.

"I don't know."

My voice trembled slightly.

"I need time to process what this might mean."

I looked up at him, vulnerability washing over me.

"I've spent so many years standing on my own, fighting my battles alone. I've learned to live without parents, without a real family."

I swallowed hard.

"And now, suddenly, there might be people who... who are biologically connected to me? It's overwhelming."

I took a shaky breath. "I don't know if I'm ready for it."

Caspar knelt before me, taking my hands in his.

"Whatever you decide, I'll support you. There's no rush to make any decisions."

His voice was steady, grounding.

"Don't be afraid, Audrey. You won't have to face any of this alone—I'm right here with you, every step of the way."

I felt tears threatening and blinked them back furiously.

"I need a few days. Just to... process all of this."
