Hating You to the Grave Chapter 9
Jules turned around. Marcus didn't look surprised. "What about Savannah? She's a problem."
"Problems that can be solved with money aren't real problems." Jules sat down, looking serious. "If I went to Eva now... would she come with me?"
Marcus sighed. "She has no one left in this world. But you two have hated each other for so long... Why don't you ask her yourself?"
Jules unbuttoned his collar and looked up at the dark sky. "Marcus, do you know how much I want... to have a home with her?"
Even Marcus laughed bitterly.
I had almost forgotten that we once had warmth between us. Hatred had buried it deep.
He hated me for stealing the Devereaux family's last smuggling route after his father died.
I hated him for refusing to help when my mother was sick, taking all the money instead.
He missed the chance to kill my father himself.
I caused the "accident" that paralyzed his mother.
Our love was twisted.
"A home?" He didn't even believe it himself.
Jules looked down at his phone and typed.
[Come back tomorrow. Let's talk.]
[Can't we live like normal people?]
[I surrender. Let's stop torturing each other. Marry me.]
"Savannah is here," Marcus whispered.
Jules looked up. Savannah stood at the entrance, eyes red, gripping her dress. She had heard everything.
Jules didn't hide it. "Five million. Leave New Orleans."
Savannah’s tears fell. "Why? Why don't you want me?"
"She was with you for ten years, but I've been with you since I was nineteen!"
"Why?!"
It started raining. She screamed in the rain. Jules sat there like a statue.
He was an expert at driving people crazy.
I watched Savannah limp away, broken.
Jules kept staring at the text messages that would never be read. His fake deep emotion was nauseating.
Julian Devereaux, I was already dead.
Your fake love is too late.
I don't want to meet you in the next life.
...
The rain didn't stop until the next afternoon.
When Jules walked out of his warehouse office, Dr. Lee was waiting for him.
"Are you Mr. Julian Devereaux?"
"I saw you at the hospital." Jules frowned.
"I am Dr. Lee. My colleague contacted you. I am here to formally ask: Will you claim the body of Ms. Evangeline Dubois? If not, since she has no family, we will process her for cremation."
