Moonlit Night Love Chapter 14

Darkness swallowed me whole, but Caleb’s presence was an anchor, pulling me back from the sensory maelstrom. I gasped, my body arching off the cot as the world snapped back into focus. The sterile smell of the clinic, the cool touch of the sheets, the worried faces looming over me—all were painfully sharp, but manageable now.

“Isabella!” Caleb’s voice was raw, his hands cradling my face. His golden eyes were wide with a fear I’d rarely seen in the formidable Alpha.

“I’m here,” I managed, my throat dry. “Caleb… the traitor is working with the vampires. I felt it. Cold, ancient… it had to be Dracula’s brood.”

The silence in the hidden lab was heavier than before. Liam cursed softly, his grip tightening on his axe. Daniel’s fingers froze above his tablet. Emily’s face paled.

“An alliance with the vampires?” Liam snarled. “That’s not just betrayal; it’s heresy! Which Elder would dare?”

“The ‘why’ is a problem for later,” I said, pushing myself up, my head still spinning. “The ‘what now’ is critical. They knew about the blood resonance experiment. They timed their breach to push us into it, to see what we’d do. This was a test, and we just handed them the results.”

Caleb’s jaw tightened. The storm in his eyes had crystallized into icy resolve. “Then we use their test against them. Daniel, status on the tracker?”

“Active and hidden on the Council terminal. The moment it’s used again, we’ll have a location.” Daniel’s screen lit up with a map of Silver Cove. “But if they’re working with vampires, their movements won’t be predictable. Vampires don’t leave digital footprints.”

“We need to move the vulnerable,” I said, the criminologist in me taking over, assembling a threat matrix. “The sanctuary is compromised. Emily, can we evacuate the mixed and the young to the safe house Anna prepared?”

Emily nodded, her healer’s calm masking a core of steel. “Tom has the vehicles ready. But we need a diversion. A large-scale movement won’t go unnoticed.”

“Then we give them a show they can’t ignore.” Caleb stood, his Alpha aura filling the small room. “Liam, you and I will make a very public, very angry appearance at the Council chambers. We’ll demand an emergency session about the security breach. Let the traitor think their plan is working, that we’re looking inward, blinded by rage.”

“And while you’re the loud, distracting Alpha,” I finished, understanding flashing between us through the bond, “I’ll lead the evacuation with Emily and Daniel. They’ll be watching you, not us.”

“It’s too dangerous for you, Bella,” Caleb objected, the worry in his voice a tangible thing.

“It’s more dangerous if I stay here as a target,” I countered. “My connection is the wild card they didn’t anticipate. I might be able to sense their movements again, even without the serum.” I placed a hand on his arm. “We’re partners in this, remember? You draw the fire; I get our people to safety.”

The plan was set in motion with a terrifying efficiency that spoke of the pack’s discipline under pressure.

The forest at night was a living, breathing entity, shadows dancing at the edge of my enhanced vision. I moved with Emily and Daniel, a silent procession of a dozen mixed-bloods and younglings. Tom’s modified trucks were waiting at a pre-arranged clearing, their engines purring almost silently.

“Almost there,” Emily whispered, her hand resting reassuringly on the shoulder of a young girl clutching a worn stuffed wolf.

Suddenly, Daniel held up a hand, his body tense. “I’m getting interference. Some kind of signal jammer. They’re here.”

From the darkness, figures emerged. wolves, but men—clad in tactical gear, their movements cold and precise. Hunters. And at their head was a man I recognized from Frank’s files: Victor, the genetic company CEO, his face a mask of cold fury.

“Dr. Green,” Victor’s voice cut through the night. “I’ll take those… specimens. And you. Your unique blood will be the key to perfecting my serum.”

So, the traitor had sold us out to multiple buyers. This was worse than we thought.

“Get the children to the trucks!” I yelled to Emily, stepping forward. My heart hammered against my ribs, but my voice was steady. “Victor, this is insane. You’re trespassing on private land.”

“I’m harvesting assets,” he sneered, raising a weapon that glowed with a sinister blue light. “A new era is coming, Doctor, and I intend to lead it.”

Before he could fire, a guttural roar echoed through the trees. Not Caleb. This was different. From the other side of the clearing, another group arrived—wolves, but their eyes shone with a feral red light. They moved with unnatural speed, flanking Victor’s men. Chaos erupted.

“The vampires’ wolves!” Daniel shouted, pulling me behind a thick oak. “They’re turning this into a three-way fight!”

It was a slaughterhouse. Hunters, rogue wolves, and our protectors clashed in a whirlwind of teeth, steel, and gunfire. Through the bond, I felt a spike of alarm from Caleb. He knew. He was coming, but he was too far away.

In the midst of the chaos, I saw him—Elder Alistair, one of the most conservative members of the Council, standing calmly at the edge of the fray, observing. The traitor. He wasn’t fighting;

he was supervising.

“Emily, cover me!” I crouched low and darted through the fighting, my focus solely on Alistair. He saw me coming, a smirk twisting his lips.

“The human thinks challenge an Elder?” he mocked, his form beginning to shimmer, ready to shift.

“No,” I said, stopping a few feet from him. I didn’t need to fight him. I just needed to confirm it. I closed my eyes, pushing past the fear, the noise, and reached for the frayed edges of the bond, for the amplified senses the serum had awakened. I focused on him, on the emotional field around him. And there it was—the same cold, calculating malice, intertwined with a thread of ancient, vampiric power. “I just need to expose you.”

His smirk vanished. “A clever trick. But it won’t matter. By morning, the Alpha will be disgraced, and the pack will be mine to lead into a new… partnership.”

A silver blur shot out of the trees, tackling Alistair mid-shift. It was Liam, his face a mask of betrayed fury. “You snake! You’d sell us to bloodsuckers!”

I didn’t wait to watch the fight. I turned back to the evacuation. Tom had gotten the trucks moving, the children safe inside. Emily and Daniel were holding off the last of the hunters. But Victor was gone, vanished into the woods with a few of his men.

We had survived the ambush, thwarted the immediate threat, and exposed the traitor. But as I stood amidst the aftermath, the scent of blood and gunpowder thick in the air, I knew this was only the beginning. The web of shadows had only begun to unravel, and the betrayal went deeper than we ever imagined. Caleb’s presence flooded the bond, a wave of relief and fury as he crashed through the tree line, his eyes finding mine across the battlefield. The real war was just declared.
