My Vampire Professor Chapter 135
Tessa’s POV
“Forget everything?” I asked hoarsely, glancing at Ruby who looked pale before looking back at Joseph. “Why do you have to make her forget?”
“Ruby having any knowledge of this place, or our kind is dangerous, Tessa,” Joseph said, narrowing his eyes at me. “The minute we decided to bring her here, we always had the plan to wipe her memory afterward.”
“What about me? Isn't it dangerous for me to know any of this information too?”
He didn’t say anything, which only made my heart grow incredibly heavy. I found myself wondering what was wandering through his mind at that moment. But I kept my mouth shut because I was completely speechless.
“I won’t say anything if that’s what you’re worried about,” Ruby said with a deep frown.
Joseph sighed and looked at her.
“That’s not all I’m worried about,” he told her gently. “It’s easier this way. I’m sorry, but it’s already been decided.”
I wanted to protest some more, but before I could, the door of the infirmary opened, and Anna ran in.
“Tessa!” She cooed as she ran toward me. I was bracing myself for a big hug and already grimaced at the impact before it even happened.
My body was still in a lot of pain if I moved it too quickly and I knew this hug was going to hurt. Just as predicted, as soon as Anna’s arms tightly wrapped around my weak and damaged body, I nearly howled as pain shot up my spine.
“Easy, Anna,” Joseph scolded just as Dr. Cornelia shot to his feet.
“Don’t break my patient,” he said from across the room.
Anna released me and looked me over, ignoring both of them.
“Sorry, dear,” she breathed. “I was just so worried about you. I’m so sorry this happened…”
“It’s not your fault,” I told her, giving her my best warm smile.
I saw the pain and resentment in her eyes though and it broke my heart.
“Oh, but it is,” she said, lowering her gaze. “If I hadn’t let you go off by yourself….”
“I shouldn’t have left,” I told her, stopping her words. “It’s my fault for leaving your side. I was just so upset when I thought Fae was dead and—”
“Oh, Fae! She’s at the academy now. She’s a new vampire,” Anna said with a bright smile. “She made it through the change and she’s going to be okay. You have nothing to worry about when it comes to her.”
“I know,” I said, taking a hold of her hand. “Joseph already filled me in. I’m so glad she’s okay. I’m so sorry for not trusting you guys. I shouldn’t have believed that Bernard would blindly kill her…” I said, feeling tears stinging the back of my eyes.
A frown decorated her lips now as she stared around my face.
“Being turned into a vampire isn’t a guaranteed thing,” she said, still staring around my face. “She very well could have died. You had every right to be upset. Regardless, she would have died because of the bond break. Her body was too weak to handle it. It would have been Ryan’s fault…”
“That’s why I wanted to go after him…” I said, lowering my own gaze and tugging at my fingers nervously.
Now everybody in the room gasped as they all stared at me with shocked expressions.
“You were going after Ryan?” Joseph was the first to speak after a long silence.
I looked at him and I could see the many emotions crossing his face, anger, sadness, fear, resentment, and back to anger. So much anger.
I nodded once, tearing my eyes from his to look at Anna who looked horrified.
“Why would you go after him by yourself?” Anna asked, her voice becoming almost unrecognizable.
“Because he hurt Fae,” I said, looking between the two of them. “I wanted him to answer for that… I didn’t know he was going to kidnap me…”
“Do you have any idea how stupid that was?” Joseph asked, standing to his feet.
Great, now I was going to be lectured like I was a child.
“How was I supposed to know this was going to happen?”
“He’s a vampire, Tessa. You don’t go after vampires by yourself. Especially vampires like Ryan,” Joseph seethed.
“It doesn’t matter anyway; he found me before I found him,” I said, shrugging. “He would have found me eventually. He was looking for me. He broke the bond with Fae so he could make me his blood slave.”
I shuddered at the very thought.
“And you made it easy for him to take you,” Joseph muttered, annoyance clear on his face.
Anna placed a hand on his shoulder, willing him to calm down.
“Let’s not be angry,” she said softly. “Tessa is okay and that’s all that matters right now.”
He sighed and his body relaxed slightly before he nodded and gave her a gentle smile in return.
“Tessa is going to need more rest if we want her to recover,” Dr. Cornelia said as he approached. “She’s been through a lot and her body is very damaged. I imagine she will be on her feet again in a couple of days, but until then she’s going to need plenty of rest and some quiet.”
I think that was his way of telling everyone to shut up, which I was kind of grateful for.
“Anna, do you think Bernard would be able to take Ruby home?” Joseph asked, stunning me.
Ruby tensed at his words.
“I have to leave now?” She asked, sounding hurt.
“It’s better if you leave sooner rather than later,” he explained, trying to keep his tone gentle.
“Well… why can’t that other guy take me? What’s his name? Connor?” She asked, pretending she didn’t remember his name. But I saw the blush on her face, and I tried desperately to hide the grin on my lips.
“Connor doesn’t have the ability to erase your memories. Only I and Bernard can do that,” Joseph explained. “It’s better if you forget everything once you are back in your home.”
The disappointment on her face was unmistakable.
“I’ll go find out. I’m sure he’ll have no problem with that,” Anna said sweetly. “I’ll be back soon.”
She said her goodbyes before leaving the room.
Joseph turned back to me.
“I’ll give you some time alone. I’m going to grab you some food. You need something in your stomach,” he said to me calmly.
I smiled up at him and he bent down, kissing me gently on the lips before leaving the room.
Ruby sighed and laid back down on the bed beside me, wrapping her arms through mine. I acted as if it didn’t hurt because I didn’t want her feeling badly.
“I can’t believe they are erasing my memories of this place,” she said pouting. “I have so many questions, but I guess it’s pointless to ask them now.”
“I’m really sorry, Ruby,” I breathed, trying to hide the newly developed tears in my eyes. “I didn’t mean for this to happen…”
“I know,” she said gently. “It’s not your fault.” She was quiet for a moment before adding, “I guess now I know why you are always sneaking around and so hooked on Professor Hottie.”
I wanted to smack her arm, but the sudden movement made pain course throughout my body.
“I’m only teasing,” she chuckled. Her laughter died down for a moment and I knew she was lost in thought. “Did you know he was a vampire that night at the bar when you slept with him?”
My eyes widened at her question.
“What? No, I didn’t,” I said, feeling my face warm. “I had no idea until after I found out he was the writing professor. Actually… it was the night we all went over to his Villa.”
She gasped loudly, sitting up and staring at me.
“The night Morgan died?” She asked, narrowing her eyes at me.
I managed to nod at her.
“Did he—”
“No,” I said firmly, answering her question before she actually asked anything. “It wasn’t Joseph that killed her. It wasn’t anyone here.”
“But it was a vampire?” She asked hesitantly and at that moment, I knew she feared the answer to that question. But I didn’t want to lie to her.
“Yes,” I answered grimly. “It was a vampire.”
She was quiet for a long while before resting her head against my shoulder.
“But Professor Joseph isn’t dangerous?” She asked. I could hear the worry and hesitation behind her tone.
“He’s definitely not dangerous,” I said in return. “I promise.”
She seemed to have relaxed.
“Good,” she breathed. “Because if he was, I’d have to kick some serious vampire ass.”
We both chuckled, which ended up being way more painful than I planned.
“I know I’m going to forget all of this, but I’m glad I was able to be here for you,” Ruby whispered.
I leaned my head against hers, feeling tears forming in my eyes.
“Me too, Rubes,” I whispered in return. “Me too…”
Soon, Joseph was returning with a couple of bowls of soup and crackers for both Ruby and me. He sat with us while we ate, and we talked for a few. We laughed some more, which seriously hurt my entire body. Then, Bernard arrived with Anna trailing behind him.
“Hey,” Bernard said, looking between all of us. Then, his eyes found Ruby’s. “You must be Ruby,” he said to her fondly. “I’m Bernard, the Overseer of this tribe.”
“Overseer?” She asked, raising her brows, and looking at me.
“He’s basically the guy in charge,” I told her, she nodded and looked back at him.
“Hello,” she said kindly.
“We really appreciate you coming here on short notice to help Tessa. She’s really lucky to have a friend like you,” Bernard said, a twinkle in his eyes. “I’m going to take you home now though. I think it’s better if you don’t remember anything that happened here. I’d rather not have a lot of humans know about us. You understand, don’t you?”
She looked uncertain, but she soon nodded.
He gave her a fond smile.
“Good,” he said gently. “We have a long trip, so we should go now.”
Ruby turned to me with tears in her eyes. Without saying a word, she gently wrapped me in a hug. I closed my eyes and hugged her back, finally feeling some kind of strength.
“You act like you aren’t going to see each other again,” Joseph said, shaking his head.
“I know,” I said, chuckling.
After we said our final goodbyes, Ruby, Bernard, and Anna were gone and it was only Joseph and me.
“I can’t wait to get out of this hospital. I want to go back to your place and forget about these last few days. I could use a hot spring right about now. Maybe when I get out of here, we can go to the---”
“Tessa, I don’t think staying here is a good idea,” he said quickly, stopping my words.
I frowned at him, unsure of what he meant.
“What?” I asked, raising my brows.
“Bernard was right from the beginning. It’s not safe for you here. You need to return to the city. As soon as you are able to walk, I’ll bring you home. I don’t think it’s wise for you to return here.”
