The Ghost Game Chapter 6

Although Sarah is our department manager, her technical skills are mediocre at best. She's basically just a figurehead.

The next day, I notice the VP looks terrible.

Not the kind of tired from lack of sleep, but the kind consumed by anxiety and panic.

In the bathroom, I overhear him on the phone. Between the sound of flushing toilets, I only catch one sentence.

"Don't call the police. I'll give you whatever you want!"

Because of that sentence, I can't even enjoy lunch. I just grab a sandwich to get by.

Using the time, I review yesterday's phone backup again.

Going through the folders one by one, I discover some patterns.

Ryan had been selling the well-angled voyeur videos to the VP.

The most recent transaction was the video of Sarah changing in the locker room.

Ha, I knew it. How could the company be so generous to give us a swimming pool?

It's clearly just to facilitate filming female employees!

I quickly check the company's historical records.

The company was founded seven years ago. The VP joined five years ago as an investor.

Overall, the VP doesn't really manage much—he's just responsible for bringing in investments.

The company pool opened around that time.

Supposedly, management was worried about employee depression—swimming relieves stress and provides exercise.

Why doesn't the VP film himself instead of having Ryan do it?

That's not hard to figure out.

It's so he has someone to take the fall if things go wrong!

These rich people are something else!

Their hearts are truly rotten!

Their methods are truly devious!

Near the end of the workday, I deliberately corner Sarah in the parking lot.

I cut straight to the chase and ask if she's blackmailing the VP with the video.

She's visibly startled, backing away like a frightened deer.

"How... how did you know? You didn't make a backup, did you?"

I'm not about to expose myself.

Can't break character.

I say I overheard the VP on the phone in the bathroom.

Sarah bites her lip, tears streaming down her face.

Comparable to that actress praised for having "every tear become a star in the sky."

"I know you all look down on me. Yes, I want the promotion.

When I'm done using it, I'll give you the phone. Do whatever you want with it."

Everyone at the company gossips that Sarah got her department manager position through inappropriate means.

A woman with fair skin, a beautiful face, and long legs, with that seductive voice—what man could resist?

But I know Sarah didn't sleep her way to the top.

Once, the company firewall was hacked, and I fixed the vulnerability.

I happened to see surveillance footage of the boss praising Sarah for keeping her word.

Because she discovered the boss was having an affair and promised to keep it secret in exchange for the promotion.

If it were someone else, they might have been endlessly greedy, extracting benefits again and again.

Or playing both sides.

But Sarah only made the exchange once.

Although she dresses provocatively, she has her limits. She never went all the way.
