The Lost Alpha Princess Chapter 393

Victor’s POV

Daisy burst into tears and ran down the deck stairs to the beach. Her anguish brought forth deep regret for my harsh words, and I followed her.

I called her name. But instead of stopping, she ran away from me even faster. When I ran after her, she dashed into the surf.

My beloved was already upset. That’s why she came here. So what did I do? I made her feel worse. How could I be such a cad?

I taught Daisy how to swim, but the ocean was much different from the pagoda pond on Alex’s estate. And the beach was flagged. I had to reach her before she got into the deep waters.

There were warnings against swimming today. The waves were higher than usual, and there were strong, dangerous currents in the waves.

I ran as fast as I could to catch up to her. Yet, Daisy was already in water up to her waist, and the waves were pushing her around like a rag doll when they crashed into her.

Fear of losing her made me freeze for a moment, and I called her name again.

She didn’t respond. Instead, she kept moving deeper into the water, the strong waves crashing into her shoulders now.

“Daisy, honey!” I called over the noise of the surf. “Come back to me. It’s too dangerous out there. Please, sweetheart.”

She showed no sign she heard me just before a wave made her disappear under the water's surface.

“Daisy!” I screamed as I lunged into the water. I couldn’t lose her. She was my whole world.

I hurried into the water to try to find her. The surf was up to my neck at the last place I’d seen her, but there was no sign of her now. She was gone.

“My love, where are you?” I called telepathically. “Please, darling. Answer me.” She couldn't be dead.

The sea couldn’t have taken my fated mate from me. It tried before and failed. Had it succeeded this time?

My heart stuttered when I heard her voice in my mind.

“Help me, Victor. The water is taking me away,” Daisy replied. “The current is so strong. It’s taking me out to sea! I’m so frightened.”

I looked for her further from the shore and saw her swimming fifty feet from me. She was trying to return to the beach and couldn’t.

She was caught in a rip tide.

“I’m coming, sweetheart,” I told her. “But you must swim parallel to the beach, or I won’t be able to catch up with you. Swim toward the jetty, my love, and I will be able to help you get back to the beach.”

“I’m doing it, Victor,” Daisy called as she swam for her life. “I’m swimming toward the jetty, and it’s working. The tide isn’t pulling me out to sea any longer.”

She still had a long way to swim to reach the jetty. “I see you, honey. I’m coming to you, and we will swim back together.”

“I was so foolish to run from you,” she said. “I couldn't stand how I had hurt you. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

“I know, my love,” I assured her. “I’m sorry I spoke to you the way I did. I love you, Daisy. Everything will be okay. We will talk it over when we get back to the beach house.”

She paddled with all her might to meet me, and I was closing in on her. Soon, we met in the water, and she was safe in my arms.

I kissed her sweet lips and held onto her tightly.

“I’m sorry I ran away again,” Daisy said as she clung to me. “But I wasn’t running away from you. I was so upset that I couldn’t stay at the party. Nobody cared about what I wanted for our wedding. None of them asked. They just told me what kind of wedding I should have.”

“They were wrong to do that, my love,” I assured her. “Let’s get back to the beach, and we’ll talk more.”

We swam together through the strong waves and made it safely back to the beach. Then, hand in hand, we walked over the warm sand to the beach house.

Daisy got us towels from the downstairs bathroom, and we sat on the living room deck using the towels and letting the warm salt air dry us.

“I’m sorry I said what I did when I got here,” I apologized. “I was hurt, and I was worried about you all night. Yet, that isn’t an excuse not to hear you out before saying what I said.”

Daisy didn’t say anything, making me worry again. I couldn’t stand not knowing what she was thinking. I was still worried I was losing her.

Maybe she didn’t want to get married. I knew she was shaken by the birth of Amy’s baby, even though she wouldn’t talk about it.

“Daisy, honey, I love you. We can live together as mates for as long as you like if you’re not ready to marry me yet. As long as I have you in my life, I’ll be happy.”

Daisy shook her head. “I didn't say I don’t want to marry you.”

“That’s great,” I said. “Then I want you to know you can have any wedding you want. My mother doesn’t have to plan any of it. You’ll have my full support to have everything your way.”

She shook her head. “You don’t understand.”

“I’m trying, sweetheart,” I insisted. “Talk to me. Tell you what you want from me. Tell me what you need to be happy.”

Maybe I’m being selfish about everything,” Daisy’s eyes brimmed with tears. “Please try to understand. I’m so confused and emotionally exhausted. I want to stay here for a little while to relax and think.”

“You want to stay here?” I asked. Did that mean I was losing her? What was she confused about? Was I the one making her feel emotionally exhausted?

She ran from me when I got here and almost drowned. Maybe she didn’t want me anymore, but I couldn’t ask her. I couldn’t say the words because I was afraid of the answer.

No, that didn’t make sense. I could feel her love for me through our connection. Lack of love wasn’t our problem.

But why did she want to stay here at the beach alone instead of going back to Denhurst to get ready for our wedding?

I needed a moment away from her before I said something that spooked her again.

“I’m going to change into dry clothes, sweetheart,” I said. “I’ll be right back.”

She nodded silently and walked to the railing to look over the water. I sensed her emotions were in turmoil again. She was calm before I arrived. Was my presence upsetting her?

I went upstairs and changed into dry jeans and a T-shirt. After hanging my wet clothes in the shower, I brushed my teeth, combed my hair, and ran an electric razor over the beard stubble on my face.

I felt better being groomed, but the sleepless night showed on my face, along with my fear of Daisy rejecting me. I never thought she would do such a thing. Now, I wasn’t so sure.

Why did she want to stay here without me? The beach house was a place for romance. I didn’t ever want to be here without her. If I lost her, I would never be able to enter this place again by myself.

The beach house was the place where we first made love. Looking at the bed where I first loved her incredible body, the memories made my body stir with lust.

I've never known a woman so innocent, yet so passionate. And making love with Daisy has only gotten better over time. We were perfectly in sync with each other in bed.

Daisy is my true fated mate. I can’t lose her. If she genuinely wants to stay here alone, I must accept it and hope she returns to me.

After retrieving my key fob from my pants, I went downstairs.

“Are you sure you want to stay here?” I asked.

“I’m sorry, Victor, but I must,” she replied. “Please try to understand.”

“Very well,” I said as cheerfully as possible, but I knew she could tell I wasn’t the least bit happy about it.

“Thank you,” she said. “I’m sorry if it’s not convenient for you.”

“Not convenient?” I repeated, not knowing what to say. “I’m going now. I love you. I want you in my life, and I won’t force you to marry me. Please let me know what you decide.”

Then, I walked out the door to my car, which was still parked in the driveway. I wiped away a tear before climbing into the Lamborghini and starting the engine.
