The Red Rose of Manhattan Chapter 10
He frowned deeply, striding to the lakeside, reaching out his hand, his voice suppressing fury: "Lily! Get out!"
Lily shook off his hand, continuing to search.
Only when her fingers finally touched something cold and hard did she clutch it like treasure and finally climb out of the lake, completely soaked.
That's when Ethan saw what she'd risked jumping into the lake for—just a small gemstone necklace that looked rather old.
Anger flared in him. He grabbed her arm: "You donated millions worth of stuff without blinking! Now you're risking your life for this little trinket?!"
Lily forcefully pulled away, trembling from cold and emotion: "You don't understand anything! So don't stand there making commentary!"
"You said we're done! So please leave me alone! Don't pay attention to me! And don't talk to me—"
She stared into his eyes, enunciating two words clearly:
"Brother-in-law!"
Ethan froze at the title, his pupils contracting. Before he could speak, Serena walked over, her tone innocent but triumphant: "Lily, thanks for getting my thing back."
She reached for the necklace Lily was clutching tightly.
Lily held it in a death grip, refusing to let go.
"This is mine!"
Serena looked at Ethan pitifully: "Ethan, this is from my mother..."
Ethan looked at Lily's stubborn expression, then at Serena's expectant eyes. His brow furrowed, and finally, he reached out and forcefully grabbed Lily's wrist.
"Let go." His voice was cold and hard.
"No!" Lily glared at him, her eyes red.
Ethan used brute force, prying her fingers open one by one!
"Ah—"
A soft crack, followed by Lily's muffled groan of pain.
He'd actually broken her wrist!
The pain hit her instantly. Her face went deathly pale, cold sweat breaking out, staring at this cold, cruel man in disbelief.
Serena seized the opportunity to snatch the necklace, giving Lily a triumphant glance before linking arms with Ethan, her voice soft: "Ethan, let's go inside and get our coats."
Ethan nodded, giving Lily one complicated look before turning to leave with Serena.
However, just as they entered the club, a heavy iron light fixture overhead suddenly came loose and fell straight toward Serena!
Ethan reacted lightning-fast, shoving Serena aside, but the edge of the fixture still grazed the back of her head.
"Serena!"
Ethan's face changed dramatically. He immediately scooped up Serena and rushed toward the parking lot to get her to the hospital.
Lily, clutching her broken wrist in agony, nearly fainting from pain, was also taken to the hospital by kind bystanders.
The doctor setting her bones couldn't help but comment: "Who... who could be so cruel to do this to a young woman like you?"
Lily's face was pale, her lips trembling. The pain in her heart far exceeded any physical suffering.
The doctor added that her wrist was severely injured and she needed to stay for observation.
So Lily had no choice but to remain hospitalized.
However, shortly after being settled into her room, Ethan burst in, radiating cold fury.
His face was terrifyingly dark, and he looked at her like he wanted to tear her apart.
"Lily, I checked the security footage. You bribed club staff to loosen that fixture, trying to kill Serena. Didn't you?"
Lily felt only absurdity, looking at him coldly: "I didn't!"
"Besides you, who else would have such malicious intent toward Serena? Lily, I really underestimated you. Lawless, capable of anything!"
"I told you I didn't! You have no right to slander me!"
"Slander?" Ethan's eyes were ice cold. "Looks like if I don't teach you a lesson, you won't tell the truth."
He pulled out his phone, making a call, his voice cold: "Contact the police. Miss Lily Sterling is involved in attempted assault... Send someone over. Let her cool off in lockup for a few days."
"Ethan!"
Lily looked at him in horror, unable to believe he was using his connections to have her detained!
But no matter how she struggled, explained, or cried out, it was useless.
Soon, uniformed officers arrived at the hospital room and, despite the doctor's protests and her injuries, forcibly took her away.
