The Secret Mate For Her Quadruplet Alpha Brothers Chapter 6: Runaway
Ollie’s POV
Raw fear makes my heart race. Seeing only one option, I dash into the closet and yank the door closed behind me. As soon as I do, I hear the main door open and the four brothers walk inside.
“Gods, she smells so good,” Hugh says, delight in his voice. “Better than anyone I’ve ever scented.”
“Where did she go?” Wes asks.
“The closet,” Declan replies.
A pair of footsteps near the closet. If the open this door and see who I am, I’m done for!
“Please!” I call out. In my panic, my voice comes out higher than normal. Quickly realizing the advantage of disguising my voice, I keep the same higher pitch. “I need to change clothes first, before we meet.”
“Come out naked,” Hugh says. “We don’t mind.”
“Hugh,” Wes scolds. “Conrad, do something.”
“Miss,” Conrad calls. He’s the one nearest the door. “We’ve been waiting for you for some time. We only want to see your face.”
“Not until I’ve changed first,” I say. “Please. I… I want to look my best for you.”
“She’s shy,” Wes says.
“What’s there to be shy about?” Hugh asks. “We’re mates, not strangers.”
“Girls want to look their best,” Wes says.
“How would you know?” Hugh says. “You don’t even have a girlfriend.”
“We’ll leave,” Declan says. “We’ll wait outside the door.”
Hugh sighs. “Fine.”
“We’re going outside of the room,” Conrad calls to me. “Knock when you are ready for us to enter.”
I wait quietly, listening, as they file out the door.
“They are gone,” my wolf says in my mind, a hint of confusion in her voice.
Fortunately, in the closet, I find an old discarded pair of clothes. I don’t know who they belong to, but I’m not willing ask needless questions at the moment.
Stepping out of the closet, I quickly change into the spare pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Looking around, I don’t immediately see a back door, but there is a window.
I rush to it and open it. As it’s a first floor window, I easily sneak out without hurting myself.
When I’m in the cool night air, I begin to relax.
“Please explain now,” my wolf says. “We should be running to your mates, not away from them.”
“You don’t know these guys like I do,” I tell her. “They are not the kind of guys we want to be tied down to.”
“The mating bond has a way of changing things,” my wolf says.
“Not them,” I say. “And even if they do start to treat me kinder, which I doubt, binding myself to them means I’d be trapped here, forever abused and bullied by Sylvia.”
“Who is Sylvia?”
Briefly, I give my wolf an account of what’s happened the past three years. I hit only the big points for now, planning on filling in the finer details later.
Maybe she doesn’t need them though, because I feel her understanding soon enough.
“I can hide my scent,” my wolf says, “But in doing so, you will have to play the part of a wolfless. You will never be able to shift in front of others, lest you reveal your secret.”
“I understand,” I say. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to stay free.”
“Very well,” my wolf says and I can feel the difference already, as she slowly pulls herself back, hiding herself.
“What is your name?” I remember to ask.
“I’m Scarlet,” she says.
“Nice to meet you, Scarlet. I’m Ollie.” Despite everything, I am glad to have my wolf, and such a kind, understanding one too. It’s nice not to feel so alone anymore.
That reminds me…
I managed to grab my clutch purse as I was sneaking out of the room. I open it now to find my phone and text Ella that I will meet her at the estate. There’s no way I’m going back to the venue now.
Only as I continue to walk do I realize I’ve made a grave mistake. In my hurry to flee, while I grabbed my purse I left my dress sitting on the floor of the changing room.
Maybe they won’t notice.
Third Person POV
That delicate scent smells so heavenly, Conrad’s entire body is reacting with want and need. He was desperate to be close to the source of that scent, to bury his nose in her neck, while he slams his dick between her thighs. When she’s writhing in passion, he will bite down on her neck, making her his…
Realizing he’s fantasizing, he shook his head to clear it. He needs to keep a level head for now, not wanting to scare the poor woman. After all, his brothers will each want the same thing, and too much too quickly could frighten her off.
Conrad presses the meat of his palm down uncomfortably onto his hardening dick, hoping to cool some of my rising heat.
“I don’t hear anything,” Declan says from closer to the door.
“What?” Conrad asks, alarmed. “Open it.”
Declan does so at once, opening it the entire way. The brothers pile into the room, but it’s empty, even the closet. The window is open, like she crawled out of it.
“She left this,” Wes says. Bending down, he lifts a wine-stained dress. It smells of their mate. “I will return it when we see her again.”
Wes is thinking optimistically. If the woman climbed out a window, chances are she doesn’t want to be seen again. At least not yet.
“We scared her,” Declan says.
“She should feel the same pull toward us as we feel for her,” Hugh says. “She shouldn’t want to be apart from us at all.”
“Then what’s going on?” Conrad asks him.
Hugh shrugs. “I have no idea.”
“We should look for her,” Wes says. “Maybe she went back to the party.” He tucks the dress in with his things.
Yet, when they returned to the party, they couldn’t find her. Their girlfriends find them though, and cling to them. Odd, they’ve never realized how annoying the girls are until now.
Meanwhile, Silvia believes this gala is a bust. She’s talked to absolutely everyone, but none of them are her mate. Discouraged, she’s ready to go, and starts in search of the brothers.
She finds them sitting at a table, the four of them on one side, with Christie, Vikki, and Kimber on the other. Her three followers are pouting, looking longingly at their boyfriends who are ignoring them.
The brothers are locked in some serious conversation.
“She’s not here,” Declan says.
“She can’t have just vanished,” Hugh says.
“Maybe she did leave, after all,” Wes adds.
“How are you talking about?” Sylvia asked.
Conrad answers, “We found our mate.”
Silvia’s annoyance flares. They should only be focusing on me. Who is this other woman to claim all of their attention?
Clearing her throat, Sylvia starts in her most pathetic voice. “Oh, I’m so tired. This night has been filled with disappointment. I wish I could go home…”
The voice works like a charm. At once, the previous topic of discussion is paused and all four brothers focus on me.
“I can take you home, if you are ready to leave, Sylvia,” Wes says.
“I think the five of us should go together,” Silvia says, purposefully leaving out my followers. She wasn’t going to share any of the brothers’ attention right now.
“Of course,” Conrad says, and if he agrees, it’s basically set in stone.
Together, the five leave the gala.
Silvia held their attention for a while, but on the way home, as she was discussing how one of my classmates found her mate with one of the waiters tonight – how embarrassing – their focuses seem to drift once more.
She couldn’t seem to stop them from fixating on their mysterious mate.
When they reach the house, she was desperate to reclaim their attention, so she makes up a lie. “There was a Gamma tonight who was all over me. He was handsome enough, I guess, but a Gamma? How could he hope to have a chance? I turned him down, gently of course. I hope he can handle the rejection…”
Wes says then, “Could it be she knew who we were and decided to reject us?”
Hugh sighs. “What a waste. I hoped to sleep with her first. I heard sleeping with your fated mate is mind-blowing.”
“I hate these games,” Conrad growls. “If she wants to reject us, I’ll mark her first so she can’t.”
Declan’s voice is ice. “She won’t escape us. Not with me here.”
Suddenly a glass shatters.
Wes clicks on the light, revealing Ollie in the corner of the room holding a pitcher. The glass she must have been pouring water into is in pieces on the floor.
“There’s Ollie,” Hugh scoffs. “Annoying even when pouring water.”
Looking at Ollie, something clicks in Silvia’s mind. It’s after midnight, isn’t it? “Ollie, wasn’t it your birthday? Why can’t I smell your wolf?”
