The baby woke up alone, suddenly wide awake. However, his small bedroom was still in the dark, and very quiet. He waited for a few seconds and sat up. The moonlight was enough that he'd recognize the frame of his little bed, the little blanket that was covering his small legs, and past it, the rough, uneven shape of a small dragon. The silver dragon was peacefully sleeping, unlike its owner, snoring faintly. The young boy suddenly felt lonely. He glanced around, but his little room was very quiet and peaceful.

"Dada?"

His little, chubby hand grabbed the blanket, getting a bit nervous for some reason.

"Dada..."

He waited, but nothing but silence answered. There was a faint wind coming from the window. He glanced at his dragon again, but it wouldn’t move. Suddenly, he felt even sadder, and felt like crying. A little sob came out.

"Dada... Dada..." He cried.

The dragon woke up from his cries, perking up its head with wide-open emerald eyes. The baby didn't care anymore though. He kept crying, not too loud, but just enough to express his anxiety and sadness. After a while, he finally heard some movement coming from the other side of the door. He waited, sobbing silently.

The large figure of a man appeared in the frame of his door and, unafraid, the baby smiled between his tears.

"Dada!"

He immediately extended his little arms towards the shadow. The man walked up to the little bed, and soon, his large hands grabbed the baby.

"Kassian."

The baby smiled even wider, and let himself be carried, relieved. His father's large and warm chest was the safest place in the world. The War God gently caressed the baby's back, patting him to calm down. Kassian smiled, and rested his cheek against his dad's torso, giggling, a bit relieved.

Kairen glanced at the bed, at the window, and at the young dragon. Now wide awake, Kian jumped on the frame of the bed, curious, tilting its head. Once sure the room was like usual, Kairen turned around, carrying his son to his bedroom. It was right next door, and the large bed was still warm from his body heat. The baby happily giggled as he recognized the familiar room, and the comfy bed of his father. Kairen carefully laid back down, keeping his son in the crook of his arm, and pulling the blanket to cover them. Despite the biting cold of winter outside, the extra warmth was superficial. The Dragon Owner's body heat was plenty enough. It was more for the baby's comfort that he did this. As Kassian cuddled against his father's torso, cozy against the warm skin, the War God's thumb gently wiped the wet and plump baby cheeks.

"...I feel lonely too," whispered the War God.

His baby raised his big green eyes to him, curious about his father's deep voice and the meaning of his words. Kassian was too young to understand someone was missing, yet, at curious times, the baby would suddenly cry for company. As if he knew. As if he could sense the deep void that slowly ate his father's heart. In fact, if it wasn't for the little boy, perhaps the War God would have let that darkness fill him much earlier, much faster.

However, now, his bleeding heart was comforted by the baby's deep, beautiful and unique green eyes. It wasn't enough to stitch the gaping wound, but it was enough to soothe the pain a bit. Kairen sighed, and just kept staring at his son, who was not showing any sign of going back to sleep. Still, he patted the baby's back, his hand large enough to cover most of the small body.

"Won't you go back to sleep, son?" Kairen softly asked.

"Da..."

The baby's favorite word was his main means of communication. At times, Kairen worried. He was worried he wouldn't be good enough on his own to raise Kassian. And many more times, he regretted he had no other choice.

He didn't say anything, and simply stared into the baby's eyes, patting his back until Kassian finally started looking sleepy again. When his little eyes closed, the War God sighed faintly, and brought the baby even closer against him. Kassian's warmth wasn't as obvious as his, but the faint smell of the baby and his little shape was enough to comfort his father a little. Kairen tried to go back to sleep, imagining another pair of green eyes was next to them...
