I stormed across the cafeteria with the rage of a thousand suns coursing through me. In the back of my mind, Mona was just as angry, snarling and chomping her jaw at the air.

I slammed one of the papers down on the table in front of Kairos, sloshing the food he was eating all over the place. Slowly, he lifted his head and I was met with the stony gold eyes I’d come to loathe.

“What the fuck!?” I screeched. “How fucking dare you?!”

“What now?” he said, lazily.

“Don’t fucking ‘what now’ me, you dickbag!” I slammed my hand on top of the naked photo of me again. “You did this, didn’t you?”

“In case you couldn’t tell,” Kairos said, slowly. He pushed the photo of me away from him with two fingers. “I can’t get into the women’s locker room.”

Across from him, Petyr snickered. I turned my rage towards him. Another laugh shot up from besides Kairos. I wheeled my gaze towards it’s source. It was another male Alpha I’d seen hanging around Kairos. He was a second year but that was about all I knew.

“Now we know why Maximus hasn’t been around us, lads,” he chuckled. He tapped the photo of me, right on my chest. It was almost as if I could feel his grubby fingers on my skin. He snorted again. “Ditched us for a good pair of tits!”

I ripped the paper out from under his grasp as Petyr snickered along with him. Kairos, oddly enough, was silent. I knew he was to blame. He probably sent those girls to embarrass me just as he did on the first day of school.

“Fine,” I threw at Kairos. “You fucking win. Now call them off.”

“What?” Kairos hissed in confusion. “I had nothing to do with this.”

I threw my hand towards the girls at the end of the table. “You didn’t tell them to do this?”

“No,” Kairos scoffed. “I would never approve of anything so crass. Petty pranks mean nothing to me.”

“A prank?” I snapped. “You think this is a fucking prank?”

Kairos shrugged. “It’s a classic prank. Older students fuck with younger students. Do they not do that in the human world?” The way he said “human world” was entirely mocking me. Petyr started snickering again.

At that moment, I lost it. My hand slammed onto the table, startling everyone who was sitting there. I pinned Kairos with a look so scathing, it felt like my inner flame was scorching him.

“You have been nothing but horrible since I got on this campus,” I growled. “I am fucking over it. I don’t want to be here anymore than you want me here. I put up with your nonsense. Your ‘Hunt’ or whatever the fuck the sadistic ritual you do here is. Your relentless pursuit of trying to bring me down.”

I paused to glare down at the girls at the end of the table. Then I shifted back my gaze to Kairos.

“But, now, you’ve taken it too far,” I continued. “You’ve got the entire school on your side. You’re trying to break me in ways that are inhumane. You’ve now violated me in a way I cannot look past—”

“I didn’t tell them to take the fucking pictures,” Kairos grit out between his teeth.

LIAR! Mona roared in the back of my mind. I was shocked as the words erupted from my own throat in a thrashing, bitter snarl. She’d rushed the front of my mind again and was clawing her way out of my throat. Just as she’d done when Valentin had rejected us. The control I had over my own body was fleeting.

I used what little control I did have, I used to force my gaze towards the rest of the table. All of the girl who’d taken photos of me crowded near the end, huddled around each other with wide eyes. Petyr looked like he’d seen a ghost, face white and lip trembling. I looked down and realized why as I saw the sparks of a beginning flame starting in my palms. My eyes were forced wide in shock.

Mona, I tried to reach my wolf. We need to calm down.

I cannot! Mona paced in my forehead. I will not! The High Alpha must pay. He must learn who we are and what we can do!

No! I shouted. Not here. Not now. Later.

There is no time for later! Mona snarled. The spawn must pay. Now.

I cracked and twisted as the familiar feeling of shifting took over. I hunched over, splaying my hands on the floor of the cafeteria. They shifted quickly, forming into paws as my legs and back arched into my wolf form. There was all familiar burning sensation I felt when Mona took over. I looked down to see my clothing falling from my wolf body in burnt tatters.

I shook once before I crouched and snarled at Kairos. Mona’s rage was all consuming, hitting me like a brick and forcing me to focus on nothing but attacking Kairos. I took two steps closer to Kairos, who was looking at me with shock and awe. Around us, students were darting away from their tables, trying to avoid my violent prescience.

“Call off the pack,” I barked at Kairos down the line. He blinked at me in confusion before taking another step back.

“I didn’t put them on,” he snapped. “I had nothing to do with this, I swear.”

“Why do you lie!?” I felt Mona take over as that phrase was thrown down the line.

Then, I pounced.

In a familiar dance to the last time I’d ran myself at Kairos, he shifted almost instantly into his wolf. He lurched out of the way of my snapping jaws and flung his body into a table. The students still sitting jumped up and darted away from us. Then Kairos charged me. Her tackled me to the ground and had us rolling through the cafeteria, crashing into things as we did.

Finally, I managed to get the upper hand again, laying him flat on his back. He shifted back to try and force me away, but his human strength wasn’t enough. My paws barred down on his shoulders as he tried to scramble away.

“Call them off,” I snapped.

“Get off me, you psycho!” he threw back as he struggling.

“Do as I say and I will,” I hissed. “Admit I am of higher rank. I am the one in charge. I am the—”

“Stand down!” A voice boomed across the cafeteria.

Both Kairos and I froze. Our heads titled to follow the sound. Once again, my savior, Headmaster Valentin Lunerly was called. He floated into the room like he was on a cloud, eyes boring into me. The flashed with something powerful.

“Stand. Down.” He repeated, harsh and cold.

“He’s been after me since the start!” I hissed. “I’m tired of being weak. I’m tired of acting like I’m not as strong as I am!”

“As your High Alpha, I command you to stand. Down!” Valentin roared in response.

Something about his tone struck me deep in my core. I whined then slowly crumbled to the ground next to Kairos, with my head down. I wrapped my arms around my naked human form as it came back to me. My gaze was cast down, as was Kairos.

Valentin slowly strode across the cafeteria floor. His dress shoes clicked against the ground. When he finally got to where I was, he took off his cloak and draped it around my shoulders. He said nothing as he did but I could feel the anger burning off of him. He stood back up and addressed the rest of the students.

“This school is out of control,” he snapped. “Between the multitude of fights on campus, the horrible events happening at parties and now, the cruelty you are displaying to one another. I’m not sure where you all learned this behavior, but it ends. Now.”

He walked back towards the door to the cafeteria then paused. He sent one last scathing look over the crowd then locked eyes with me.

“There will be punishments for those involved,” he snapped. I felt a shiver run down my spine. Valentin’s eyes flashed once then jolted from me. “For all others, a mandatory meeting this afternoon. Do not be late.”
