Big Bad Wolf Chapter 21: First Order of Business

Alexander Carmichael is back.

Alex had just returned from a two-week trip. He had to head over to the Carmichael Tower straight from the airport for an important catch-up meeting with Lucas and the rest of his team.

But his first order of business was to meet Mira.

He might have only been gone for two weeks, but his life had taken a massive turn, and he knew changes would have to follow suit. And his involvement with Mira was the first thing that he had to change.

He called for her, and she jumped him the second the door to his office closed.

“Darn it, love; I missed you so much!” Mira groaned as she moved her lips to Alex’s neck.

Alex sighed yet leaned his head back against the chair as Mira threaded her fingers through his soft hair. "Mira, I’m tired."

His eyes widened for a fraction of a second, his expression somewhat stunned and proud―stunned that he declined Mira’s tempting offer and proud of himself for actually having the courage to decline such an offer.

But Mira just grinned as she kissed up his neck to his jaw. "Don’t worry, baby. You don’t have to do anything. I’ll take care of you."

Alex leaned forward, so when he spoke, his lips brushed Mira’s ear. "Mira, we can’t. Someone might see us. Lucas might come in. Or worse, his nosey assistant might come in here," he whispered.

Mira pulled back in confusion. "Since when did you start caring about what they’d think?"

"Mira, I called you because we have to talk.” Alex scowled at her.

Mira looked at him sincerely as she shook her head. "I think you’ll want my mouth to do some other thing than talk."

“What?”

“Close your eyes,” Mira told him.

And Alex did, not because he was told to do so but because he was honestly tired from his trip. The flight from Stockholm to Seattle was no easy feat for him, even when he was flying on a private jet. If he could have it, he would have been in bed by now, talking to her on the phone until he could no longer keep his eyes open. But there were things he had to take care of, like Mira.

Stockholm. The place had never been more special to him now than ever before. Who would have thought that in just a week, the place would hold an exceptional place in his heart? Who would have thought that―

“Shit!” Alex gasped and shifted in his seat. Suppose he thought he could get rid of Mira that easily, then he was about to be proven wrong. He leaned back and peeked down at the woman who, not so long ago, was the embodiment of everything he couldn’t say no to.

Mira glided both her hands up his thighs. She adjusted her position, his leg muscles firm under her palms. Then she reached for his hips, then trailed her fingers down.

“Mira…” Alex growled. He was getting hard, pulsing even as Mira followed the ridge of his erection. “Please…”

But Mira only smiled before she pressed her lips against the bulge in his pants. Her smile returned to her lips when she noticed his hands gripping the edge of the table, his jaw set.

“Get ready, Alex. You’re getting sucked off below your table,” she giggled playfully, excited at the thought of what she was about to do.

“Mira…stop…” Alex had never felt this weak in his life before. He knew he had to stop her. He couldn’t be screwing her now, not after Stockholm. But his body was still reacting significantly underneath Mira’s touch. He could feel his wolf stirring inside him.

Under the table, Mira felt around for his waistband. She snickered when she found the hook and zipper. She pulled the zipper down, and Alex’s hardness was out before he could even react. Mira bit her lower lip at his large, long, and very hard member. She licked her lips, making them soft and wet, before just barely running them over the head of Alex’s cock.

“Mira…fuck…stop it.” Alex squeezed his eyes shut, then pinched the bridge of his nose. The woman was just impossible. He stilled completely when with one deep plunge, she took him in as far as she could without gagging and held him there to see if he would respond.

When he didn’t say any protest or make any movement, she slowly worked him. Her hands reached up to trace his stomach, moving her fingers up along the firm ridges of his toned abs. Alex swallowed hard, his fist coming to rest against his mouth. He was about to give up when memories of Stockholm immediately flooded his mind, and he brought his palm down onto the mahogany desk with a loud thud.

“Mira, I said, stop!” he bellowed. His teeth were gritted.

Mira did stop and released him from her mouth. She looked up at him; her hand quickly started to work up his length. “Alex―”

“Stop it,” Alex said, his voice low and angry. “Get up now.”

Mira’s face was blank in shock. "What?"

He pulled his pants and zipped himself up. “You heard me.”

“What are you doing?” Mira shook her head to gather her wits. "You can’t be serious."

He wrapped his hands around her arms and pulled her up from under the table. “Sit over there.” He pointed at the chair in front of his desk. “Dammit!”

He stood up from his chair and crossed the room to his liquor cabinet, which took up a portion of the wall. He opened it and took a bottle of an expensive bourbon whisky and poured himself a glass. With how things had been so far, he’d probably drink more later. He crossed the room again and stood by the glass wall, looking out at the glorious view of the city.

The air was heavy in the room; tension was building up. For him, it was now or never. He and Mira had enjoyed each other’s company, and he knew he had given her more than she deserved. And now, it was time for them to move on.

“Alex?”

"In the weeks you have worked in this company, I have to admit that you have been really good. Considering that you never really worked as an assistant in your life, you are seemingly well versed in everything. Your supervisor has told me you never slipped.”

“Alex, what are you trying to tell me?”

“Mira…” he spoke her name, his back still on her. It was now or never. “I have found my mate.”

Silence soon followed, and this time, he turned around to look at her. Mira stared at him in surprise and, more than a little anger, from what he could tell.

“You found your mate?” Mira took a shaky breath. “Don't play me for a fool, Alex.” She shook her head in disgust. “This is how you get rid of your women, isn’t it? You played that stupid mate card on them, and now, you’re using it on me.”

“I’m not. It’s true.” Alex walked over to her. “Mira, you’re an amazing woman, and you’re better off with some guy who can actually be yours. I can’t, and you can’t fit in my world now. Not when I have found her.”

Mira shot up from the chair and took a step forward, grasping Alex’s hand. “We had something, Alex! You can’t possibly throw away what we have for something―someone you just met. Whoever that bitch is!”

Bitch?!

Suddenly, Alex grabbed her wrist and hauled her against him. He threw the glass and reached up to wrap his hand around Mira’s neck. “Never disrespect my mate again, or I will wring this little neck of yours.” His fingertips were pressing against the arteries in her neck.

Mira gritted her teeth, looking him dead in the eye. Alex should have known how much she loved pain. “You bastard! Who is she? You never really went on a business trip, did you? You were gone, and you were with her! Who is she?!”

“I am not trying to hurt you, Mira. You and I both know that what we had would never last. If you had found your mate first, then I would have been okay with it. I would understand. I wouldn’t react the way you’re reacting now.”

“Do you seriously think that I’d believe that? You’re greedy and possessive, Alex. You wouldn’t have let me be anywhere near my mate had the table turned, and I found my mate first, you sack of shit!”

She tried to yank her arm away, but Alex held fast. “Did you just call me a sack of shit? Mira, I am trying to do the right thing here. I’m trying to be reasonable.”

“Reasonable? What a load of crap I think that is! And I’m not the only one. Lucas’ assistant? Harper? She hates your guts! You’re the reason why she’s desperate to leave this place! But you wouldn’t give a shit, would you? So don’t fucking tell me you’re being reasonable here because you’re never reasonable. You’re an over-privileged piece of shit. That’s what you are.”

“And didn’t you ride on my privileges?” he hissed, pulling her close. “It’s over, Mira.”

“Tell me, Alex. Does your mate know about that little slut you fucked at Collette’s charity event?”

Alex stiffened.

“Are you surprised? You’re not the only one with abilities here. You are not that fucking special. And your mate, whoever that bitch is, will soon find out what a messed-up man you are. It won’t be too long until she discovers that the only thing you’re really ever good at is grinding a woman from behind.” Mira knew she was provoking him, but it didn't matter to her at that moment. She was hurt, and since her wolf couldn’t strike him, she lashed out with her sharp tongue instead.

“Leave now before I lose control,” Alex threatened, his wolf growling inside him. No one had the right to ever talk to them that way. He was a lycan, and it took every ounce of self-control he had not to blow off some steam.

But Mira stood her ground, and that only fueled Alex’s fury even more. His cold eyes held her gaze for a while with a stillness he forced himself to wield, which sent an almost visible shiver down Mira’s spine, slowly breaking every inch of her grit.

Then Mira pursed her lips and yanked her arm away from him.

She turned to the door—her escape.

Fear suddenly welled within her chest. Her wolf whimpered.

Then ran towards the door.

Never looking back.
