Rebecca’s POV

The mention of Elizabeth sent a flash of pain across Caroline's features before she masked it. I studied her carefully, noting the subtle signs of grief beneath her composed exterior - the faint shadows under her eyes, the tension in her jaw. She had lost her daughter, and that loss had driven her to this desperate act of revenge.

Ronald finally looked up from his tablet, setting it aside with deliberate slowness. He gave a small nod to the guards standing in the corners of the room, who immediately exited, closing the damaged door behind them as best they could.

I could feel Dominic's wariness through our bond, his senses as heightened as my own.

Ronald looked directly at Dominic, his expression hardening. "You owe us a child, Dominic. You killed our Elizabeth. Shouldn't you pay with your life?" His gaze shifted to me, cold and calculating. "Or perhaps the life of your son would be more appropriate? A child for a child."

White-hot rage exploded through me at the threat to Lucas. I stepped forward, my partial shift happening instinctively as my maternal instincts flared. "You will NEVER touch my son!" I snarled, my voice barely human. "I would die before letting you near him!"

Dominic's hand found mine, his grip firm and steadying even as I felt his own fury pulsing through our bond. His eyes had darkened dangerously, the blue almost black with controlled rage.

"There is no pack law or human law that supports your claim," Dominic stated, his voice deceptively calm but laced with lethal intent. "Elizabeth attacked me with the intent to kill. Her death, while regrettable, was the consequence of her own actions."

Ronald's face twisted with hatred. "Laws?" he spat. "What are laws when my daughter lies cold in the ground?" He reached into his desk drawer and withdrew a pistol, its metal gleaming with an unnatural sheen that told me it contained silver bullets. "This isn't a request, Sterling."

My pulse jumped, but years of Emily's training had prepared me for moments like this. I scanned the room quickly, identifying potential weapons and escape routes. "Left side window, your three o'clock," I communicated to Dominic through our bond. "There's an exit path."

Dominic gave no outward sign that he'd heard me, but I felt his acknowledgment through our connection.

I kept my expression neutral, deliberately relaxing my posture as if backing down. "You know, Ronald," I said, my voice eerily calm, "there's something about true parents and children - a bond that can't be broken." I moved slowly toward the desk, noting how Ronald's attention remained fixed on Dominic, the bigger threat in his mind. "Not everyone understands that connection."

My fingers brushed the edge of the desk, inches from a heavy crystal whiskey tumbler. "It's something primal, isn't it?" I continued, seeing Caroline's eyes narrow with suspicion. "The need to protect your offspring at any cost."

In one fluid motion, I grabbed the tumbler and flung its contents directly into Ronald's eyes. The whiskey hit its mark, and he recoiled with a howl of pain, the gun wavering in his grip.

Simultaneously, Dominic launched himself at Ronald with Alpha speed, crashing into him and sending them both slamming into the bookcase. The gun clattered to the floor, sliding under a cabinet.

I pivoted toward Caroline, who had leapt to her feet, fumbling for something in her jacket. I didn't give her the chance to retrieve whatever weapon she was reaching for. With strength born of both training and maternal fury, I tackled her, the momentum carrying us both over the desk and onto the floor beyond.

Caroline was stronger than she looked, her nails raking across my face as she fought back. But I had youth and desperation on my side. I managed to pin her arms, reaching for the silver handcuffs I'd secured at my waist. With practiced movements, I snapped one cuff around her wrist, then the other, effectively neutralizing her werewolf strength.

"This is for threatening my family," I hissed, leaning close to her face. "Say hello to Elizabeth for me."

With a swift, decisive motion, I twisted her head sharply to the side. The crack of her neck breaking echoed in the sudden silence of the room. Her body went limp beneath me, eyes staring sightlessly at the ceiling.

I turned to find Dominic in his partial shift form, his eyes glowing electric blue, claws extended and buried deep in Ronald's chest. Blood pooled beneath them as Ronald gasped his final breaths.

"The negotiation is over, Collins," Dominic said coldly, twisting his claws one final time before withdrawing them.

Ronald's body slumped to the floor, the light fading from his eyes. The scent of death filled the room - metallic and final.

Dominic looked at me, his eyes slowly returning to their normal shade as he shifted back to fully human form. There was no judgment in his gaze, only a fierce pride that matched my own feelings. We had done what was necessary to protect our family.

"Are you hurt?" he asked, moving to my side and gently touching the scratches on my face.

I shook my head. "Nothing serious." I glanced at the bodies on the floor. "What now?"

Before he could answer, Rivera appeared at the doorway. "Alpha, we have a situation. The entire Collins faction is gathering outside the house. They know something's wrong."

Dominic's expression hardened once more. "Then it's time to address our new pack members."

---

The night air was cool against my face as we stepped onto the front steps, Dominic beside me. Before us, gathered on the expansive lawn, stood nearly a hundred werewolves - the entire Collins faction. Their scents mingled in the air - confusion, fear, anger, uncertainty. They knew their leaders were dead; the news had spread through pack bonds with the immediacy of wildfire.

In the moonlight, their faces looked pale and wary. Some showed outright hostility, others mere trepidation. All waited to see what would happen next. The death of an Alpha and Luna - even ones as controversial as Ronald and Caroline - created dangerous instability in any pack.

Dominic drew himself up to his full height, allowing his Alpha presence to expand outward in a palpable wave. I stood tall beside him, chin lifted, eyes forward - determined to project the strength and dignity expected of a Luna despite the blood still drying on my cheek.

"By ancient pack law," Dominic began, his voice carrying easily across the lawn, "I am now your Alpha."

A murmur rippled through the crowd. One Beta stepped forward, his posture respectful but cautious. "The Council must confirm such a claim," he stated.

"The Council will," Dominic replied confidently. "But in the interim, a power vacuum would endanger everyone here."

I shifted slightly beside him, wondering what we would do with all these wolves. Absorbing an entire faction into the Sterling pack would create significant challenges - territorial disputes, hierarchy reorganization, loyalty questions. Yet leaving them leaderless would be equally problematic.

"What happens now?" a female Delta called out from the crowd, voicing the question on everyone's mind.

Dominic surveyed the gathering, making eye contact with key figures. "Your daily operations will continue under temporary leadership," he announced, gesturing to Johnson to join us. "Delta Johnson will oversee things until the Council can formally recognize the new structure."

Johnson stepped forward, his expression appropriately solemn. He was a good choice - experienced enough to command respect, but not so closely tied to Dominic that the Collins faction would see him as a puppet.

"Treat Ronald and Caroline's remains with the dignity befitting their rank," Dominic continued. "Arrange a funeral that honors their status, despite our differences."

This instruction seemed to surprise many in the crowd, who had clearly expected harsher treatment. But respect for the dead was deeply ingrained in werewolf culture, and Dominic's command acknowledged that, even while establishing his authority.

"I will return within forty-eight hours to address transition matters," he concluded. "Until then, maintain your normal routines and responsibilities."

As the crowd slowly dispersed, Dominic turned to me, keeping his voice low. "It's time to go home to our son."

My expression softened at the mention of Lucas, relief and longing washing over me. "Yes," I whispered. "Let's go home."
