That would have put a taint on Volkov's name, so Dimitri moved to have him officially killed by staging an attack that threatened his life and claiming it was Adrik that did it.

It was easy to believe because Adrik had been annoyed and seeking justice. It was easy to believe he would move to initiate justice for himself out of frustration.
