From His Fake Wife to Billionaire Heiress Chapter 150: I Keep My Promises
He smiled, "That doesn't matter."
Right then, Sebastian's dashboard screen lit up with a call from his assistant.
He answered. The assistant's respectful voice came through. "Mr. Torres, do you still need me to send someone over?"
Sebastian said, "No need."
But Riley caught the meaning right away. Surprised, she said, "You were going to send people in to find me?"
If I hadn't come out, would he have actually tried to storm Ashford Manor?
Sebastian turned the wheel. The car merged onto another main road. His deep eyes, caught in the passing streetlights, held a certain natural confidence.
He raised an eyebrow. "Why not?"
Riley's words got stuck. Her heart skipped a beat.
"Where are you going?" Sebastian's voice pulled her back. "Lydia's place?"
Riley shook her head and gave him an unfamiliar address. "Mooncove Apartments."
Sebastian looked a little confused. She explained softly, "It's a small apartment I bought—behind the Ashford family's back. I asked Lucas for a divorce today. I should have some peace and quiet for a while. No need to go back there."
Sebastian smoothly changed direction at the next intersection.
The car stopped outside the apartment building.
It was a nice modern complex. Mostly young people lived there.
Sebastian turned off the engine and said in a low voice, "I'll walk you up."
Riley knew he wouldn't feel right otherwise, so she didn't say no.
Sebastian naturally took her suitcase and went upstairs with her.
Since no one really lived there, the place felt empty—just the basic furniture, cold and quiet, not even a kettle or cups.
"Have a seat anywhere," Riley said as she turned on the light, a little embarrassed. "There's nothing here. I can't even offer you water."
Right after she said that, her phone—which had finally stopped buzzing—started ringing again.
Riley frowned and checked. It was an unfamiliar local number.
She knew it was Lucas, so she answered and snapped, "Give it a rest—"
But Lucas' voice was out of control. "Riley! Tell me—who the hell was that man hugging you outside?"
Riley froze for just a second. Then she figured it out right away.
He must've run out and seen Sebastian and me hugging in the headlights.
But she didn't feel caught, not even a little.
Riley held the phone and said calmly, "You saw wrong.
"That was just a driver. From the ride-share app. He was helping me with my suitcase."
A driver?
Sebastian was sitting on the single sofa across from her.
At those words, he raised an eyebrow—just barely.
Lucas clearly got choked up by that explanation. But the overwhelming rage he felt at being betrayed made it impossible for him to think straight.
"No way!" he yelled. "I saw it with my own eyes. Don't lie to me, Riley! You were holding him tight—what do you have to say for yourself?"
Riley let out a cold laugh.
Then her tone turned razor-sharp. "So what if I was?
"Lucas, have you forgotten why I left your house in the first place?
"If you can't handle it, then just hurry up and divorce me. That way, you can go live your happy little life with Sophia and that kid of yours—no one knows where it came from."
The word divorce shut Lucas right up.
Faced with that threat, his sanity came crawling back.
He calmed down and thought it over.
Maybe I really did see wrong. Maybe it was just the angle. After all, Riley loves me so much. How could she fall into another man's arms that fast?
Even if there was a hug—she must've done it on purpose. To get back at me. To protest against Sophia and Jeremy. To make me jealous.
With that excuse, Lucas' rage found a way out.
His voice softened. "Riley, I'm sorry. I was just too anxious. My attitude sucked. I... I just care about you too much."
He apologized clumsily, then asked urgently, "Where are you? Tell me the address. I'll come find you right now."
Riley felt sick to her stomach.
"Don't come," she said coldly, cutting him off. "I don't want to see you. Let's both just take some time to cool off."
Lucas' chest tightened at her firm tone. But he didn't dare push her. He backed off. "Fine. Are you still going to the office tomorrow?"
Riley sneered, "Relax. I keep my promises. But you—I hope you remember what you promised me, too."
