Reclaiming Her Heart Chapter 7
For some reason, Raymond sat up straight. "I'll set you up with an internship at the Montague Group. That way, you won't be hanging out with these shady people all the time. Be there tomorrow morning."
Carter paused, but before he could argue, Raymond hung up.
He looked at Selena, frustrated, and she probably guessed she'd been turned down.
She tried to comfort him, "Mr. Ashford, don't worry. Maybe Mr. Montague has a better plan. After all, that villa was designed for someone special. It's only right to be cautious."
Carter sighed, "That's impossible. He's still looking for a designer."
Selena stayed calm. "Business also depends on fate. Maybe this opportunity just isn't meant for me."
"Alright then, I'll ask him in person later. If he really doesn't need it, I'll have you design my houses. I really like your style."
Selena smiled and extended her hand, "Thank you for your appreciation, Mr. Ashford."
Carter got another call, then apologized to Selena and Matthew with a smile, "Tonight's on me. I gotta go. Give me your number, and I'll contact you later."
Selena gave him her number without hesitation. Carter saved it and left the private room.
Soon, it was just Selena and Matthew. This was Matthew's second drinking session of the night, and he was pretty drunk. After Carter left, he dropped all pretense.
"I'll call a driver for you," Selena said, knowing Matthew had held on just to help her with this business deal. She appreciated his kindness, especially since she enjoyed working in Matthew's studio.
"Selena, thank you," Matthew said, the drunkenness hitting him all at once.
Selena didn't want to take Matthew home because he got married a year ago, and his wife, Sarah Clark, was very jealous. To avoid unnecessary trouble, it was better to call a driver.
She supported Matthew out of the private room and down the hallway to the elevator.
Matthew, drunk and mumbling, said a few things. "I told you it's not what you think. You're making me very tired. Can you give me some privacy?"
Matthew was probably dreaming about arguing with Sarah. Selena politely supported him, but keeping a distance made it tough.
Matthew stumbled, almost falling when the elevator doors opened.
Selena quickly pulled him back, and a slender hand reached out to hold the elevator doors open for them.
Following the hand up, she met Raymond's face.
Her words of gratitude got stuck in her throat.
She hadn't seen Raymond in three years, and now she was running into him everywhere since yesterday. What a coincidence!
Raymond's gaze shifted between her and Matthew before he looked away. "Which floor?"
Raymond's shirt collar was unbuttoned, revealing two silver buttons. He didn't seem as indifferent as before, but his face was still expressionless.
Selena caught a hint of sarcasm and disdain in his eyes.
The atmosphere was awkward. She helped Matthew inside and spoke politely but distantly, "First floor, thank you."
Just then, Matthew mumbled a few more drunken words, "All you talk about is money. Do you even have any feelings for me?"
Selena had heard from colleagues at the studio that Sarah's expenses were very high. Matthew, on the other hand, was very ambitious and had built the studio into something impressive. But he hadn't kept any of the money he earned; it all went to Sarah.
Selena felt a chill beside her and shivered, hearing Raymond chuckle lightly, "Is he your client?"
Selena felt embarrassed but couldn't admit that Matthew was her boss at this moment.
Raymond was already displeased with her. If he found out Matthew was drunk like this in such a place, he might blacklist their studio forever. She had no choice but to nod. "Yes, Mr. Montague. What a coincidence."
Selena appeared so open and honest that Raymond couldn't help but wonder if he was just being too gullible.
Raymond stood there, looking all serious and stiff, like a statue with no feelings. It made people too scared to even glance his way.
As the elevator went down, Selena figured she had to give it one more shot for the studio's future.
It wasn't until she started working that she realized her pride didn't mean squat.
Raymond had deep pockets, after all.
"Mr. Montague, I hope you can give it a shot. I'll make sure you're completely satisfied. I'm happy to experiment with different styles until we find the one you love. And if you're not happy, you won't pay a penny."
Raymond couldn't think of the right words to describe Selena.
He was quiet for a moment, then finally said, "Don't you already have a client?"
