Return to 18 Chapter 8
The document scraped his cheek, quickly leaving a bloody mark.
Marcus lowered his gaze, gripping the document tightly, veins bulging on his hands. After a long while, he looked up at me, voice hoarse: "Lily, if we could start over, would you still fall in love with the eighteen-year-old me?"
I looked him over. My heart could quickly confirm this was the twenty-eight-year-old Marcus.
Mature, steady, exuding the shrewdness and calculation of a businessman.
"No."
As if the last bit of hope had shattered, Marcus closed his eyes and silently shed tears: "Lily, he once loved you very much."
Yes, I never denied the eighteen-year-old Marcus loved me.
But precisely because he once loved me so much, the betrayal and pain came even more agonizing.
He threw off the blanket. The man's missing part was somewhat obvious.
Marcus smiled bitterly: "Never thought he'd go this far for you."
The eighteen-year-old Marcus didn't understand why the twenty-eight-year-old Marcus stopped loving me.
And the twenty-eight-year-old Marcus couldn't understand why the eighteen-year-old Marcus loved me so much.
But whether he loved me or not—it was all in the past.
"Sign it."
"I don't want a divorce." Marcus suddenly looked up, staring at me with extremely pained eyes: "Lily, can you give me one more chance?"
"For his sake, okay?"
"His sudden appearance made me see how loving we once were. Lily, please forgive me, okay?"
The negotiation still ended unhappily.
On the way to my new home, the wind was full of freedom.
A small kitten lay quietly on the road. I squatted down to look at it. It affectionately rubbed against my calf.
In an instant, my heart melted completely.
I brought it home and named it "Little L."
Little L was well-behaved. At first, when I came home from work, it would always affectionately cling to me, rolling around, finding a comfortable position in my arms.
One day, I suddenly received a file in my email.
It was a several-minute video.
Sophie lay on the ground, face deathly pale, full of fear as she begged for mercy. Marcus stood over her, playing with a dagger.
He showed a cruel and mocking smile: "Which hand sent the messages to Lily?"
"I didn't... I didn't."
Marcus squatted down, patting her cheek, then used the dagger to cut her hand tendons. Her arm instantly drooped.
He wiped the blood off the dagger with his sleeve, then smiled carelessly at the camera: "Lily, her hand can't move anymore."
He lowered his head, seriously carving characters on her face. Only when the word "WHORE" appeared did he show a satisfied smile.
Sophie fainted from the pain. Marcus clicked his tongue, picked up a bucket of cold water and poured it directly on her.
Sophie let out a pig-like scream.
Marcus frowned, still seeming unsatisfied. He cut her leg tendons, viciously slicing at her ankles.
Sophie was barely alive, desperately using her last breath to say: "Marcus Bennett, you think this will make Lily Grant forgive you..."
The dagger instantly sealed her throat.
