The Day My Ex Said He Was a Dragon Chapter 10
Ethan's eyes turned red with anxiety: "Our baby will be okay, right?"
I held his hand, gently squeezing his fingertips: "Don't worry, she'll be fine."
It hadn't been long since my cousin took the item—surely it hadn't made it to the dinner table yet...
Probably.
I wasn't very confident, but facing anxious Ethan I could only reassure him first.
I hurriedly knocked on my cousin's door. He sneered: "Well, well, who do we have here? What brings you to grace me with your presence?"
"Changed your mind? Want to bring your cousin back?"
"Let me tell you, the terms..."
"Cut the crap."
I interrupted him: "Where's the thing you took?"
His eyes shifted for a second before he raised his voice: "How dare you come questioning your uncle over such a trivial matter!"
My face darkened: "Where is it?"
He turned his head away resentfully: "Stewing in the pot. If you want some..."
Before he could finish, Ethan forcefully pushed him aside.
Ethan ran inside. I followed close behind.
In the open pot, boiling water roiled, a black egg bobbing up and down.
It looked... cooked.
Ethan plunged his hand in, ignoring the scalding heat, and pulled the egg out.
I cried out: "Ethan!"
His pale hands quickly turned completely red, and even his chest pressed against the egg seemed burned red.
My cousin's eyes flashed with surprise, but he quickly resumed his usual shameless demeanor, muttering: "It's just an egg."
Yeah... actually, I'd had similar thoughts initially.
But I couldn't say those words.
Because Ethan was crying.
This was the second time Ethan had cried in front of me. He paid no mind to how hot the egg from the pot was, stubbornly clutching it tightly to his chest.
"Ethan, let go."
I wanted to take the egg: "You're already burned. We need to go to the hospital."
He wouldn't let go, but he listened to my words.
"Right, we need to go to the hospital."
He seemed to snap back to reality, murmuring: "To Andon Hospital."
Andon Hospital was a private hospital, somewhat far from here.
But Ethan was adamant, so I complied.
Worried Ethan's injuries would worsen, I finally had to speak: "Ethan, put the egg down for now."
"Even if there is something inside, it's probably already... gone."
"What do you mean?"
Ethan froze: "Aren't you worried about her at all?"
The driver, having overheard everything, couldn't help interjecting: "Mr. Morgan, your health is important. It's just an egg—you can find another. Miss Ashford cares about you."
Ethan suddenly turned to me: "Is that what you think too?"
I couldn't put it into words, but this reaction in Ethan's eyes was tantamount to acknowledgment.
"Claire Ashford."
His eyes were still red as he forced a stiff smile.
That smile looked sadder than crying.
Ethan asked: "Have you never believed me?"
"Not my identity, not our baby?"
"Have you never believed me?"
"I did doubt you."
I explained: "But I believe you now. I really believe you."
"So can you please put the egg down first? We can talk properly."
I was afraid that in the end the egg would be fine, but the little dragon-person holding it would be cooked first.
Ethan clearly didn't want to hear me anymore. He turned his head to lean against the window, silently clutching the egg.
The atmosphere in the car dropped to freezing.
The driver didn't dare speak either, just drove as quickly as possible to Andon Hospital.
