Without Julian, time flew by.

I only had a few days left in the US.

Chloe kept me updated on the drama between Julian and Serafina.

Rumor had it they got into a huge fight.

Julian had stormed out of a gala, leaving Serafina embarrassed.

People whispered that they were fighting about me.

I just laughed.

I wasn't the lovesick fool I used to be.

I used to refresh my feed constantly, looking for signs of trouble in their paradise so I could swoop in and comfort him.

Couples fight.

They would make up in bed.

I was just a pawn in their twisted game.

After that fight, Julian started calling me more often.

I either ignored him or made excuses not to meet.

Until the day before I was set to leave.

Julian begged me to go to the concert with him.

"I got the tickets. VIP box. Tonight. Please?"

"It's our anniversary. You won't reject me, right?"

He had never begged me like this before.

Usually, I was the one chasing him, running 99 steps just to meet him, only for him to retreat at the last second for Serafina.

I didn't have the heart to tell him the truth.

Today wasn't our wedding anniversary.

It was the anniversary of the fourth time we renewed our contract.

We had broken up and made up so many times, I was the only one who kept track of the dates.

I really wanted to see that concert.

But that night, I waited at the VIP entrance for hours.

Julian never showed up.

I clicked on the voice message he had just sent me.

His voice was full of guilt, mixed with the background noise of the concert venue and Serafina's giggling.

"I'm sorry, Ava. Serafina suddenly felt sick. I'm taking her to the hospital."

"We can celebrate our anniversary any time. After she leaves tomorrow, I'll do whatever you want. Okay?"

The concert began.

Classic melodies floated out of the arena.

I realized that I was just a guest in your love story.

I closed the chat and opened his social media feed for the first time in a month.

Serafina had posted a photo minutes ago.

It was an intimate selfie of her and Julian in the VIP box at the concert.

He hadn't gone to the hospital.

He had taken her to my seat.

The music swelled.

It mocked me.

It laughed at me for holding onto that last shred of hope.

This was the seventh time.

I should have known better.

But at least now, I was sure.

I turned around and went straight to the private airfield.

I sat there all night.

By 7:00 AM, my paperwork was done.

Julian texted: When should we go sign the remarriage papers?

I didn't reply. I deleted his contact info.

By 8:00 AM, I was boarding.

Julian called.

I declined the call and blocked his number.

By 9:00 AM, I was sitting in a Gulfstream jet.

The flight attendant asked me to switch my phone to airplane mode.

Suddenly, Chloe's call came through.

I answered.

Julian's panicked voice screamed from the other end.

"Ava! Where are you?!"
