Three Slaps at the Wedding Chapter 5
The scene immediately descended into chaos.
Rachel grabbed my hair, ready to tear my scalp off.
I didn't resist, letting her pull and tear.
She vented her fury until the police separated us.
The police said my actions were egregious and I might face criminal charges.
I calmly let them put on the handcuffs, readily agreeing to cooperate with the investigation.
Before leaving the banquet hall, I looked back at Rachel and said lightly, "She would never have chosen this dress."
Rachel understood the determination in my eyes.
She rushed over to stop the police. "I want to settle! I won't pursue Mia's responsibility anymore!"
"You can't take her away!"
But it was too late.
I announced solemnly to everyone, "This woman is not Rachel at all."
"Have you lost your mind? How could she not be Rachel?" Mrs. Grant spoke first. "Rachel's parents are right here. Would they not recognize their own daughter?"
"Besides, there are so many of Rachel's family and friends here. You think she's not her just because you say so?"
I lifted Rachel's chin with my hand. "She certainly looks exactly like Rachel."
"Then what makes you say she's not Rachel? She's my daughter-in-law Rachel!" Mrs. Grant firmly separated me from Rachel.
I shifted my gaze to Rachel's parents.
"Mr. Robert, Mrs. Claire, you raised Rachel for over twenty years. You know her better than anyone. Whether she's Rachel or not, you know in your hearts."
Rachel loudly refuted me. "Stop threatening my parents! They're old and can't handle your torture. Whatever you want—face recognition, fingerprints—I'll cooperate!"
I ignored this imposter's declarations.
I kept my eyes fixed on Rachel's parents. "Mr. Robert, Mrs. Claire, I don't know why you're cooperating with this fake Rachel to lie, but I believe you care about Rachel just as much as I do."
Faced with my pressure, Mr. Robert stammered, "Yes, she... she's our daughter Rachel."
Mrs. Claire wavered.
She lifted her head, trying not to let her tears fall.
After a moment, Mrs. Claire composed herself.
She told me firmly, "Mia, I don't know who's been manipulating you, but the person standing before you is my daughter Rachel."
I placed my last hope in the silent Ethan.
He should be the person who understood Rachel best, aside from me.
"Ethan, look me in the eyes! Is she Rachel?"
Ethan loved Rachel so much—he would never mistake her.
He slowly lifted his head and answered numbly, "If she's not Rachel, who is she... She is Rachel."
"Mia, stop making a scene."
I was very disappointed in Ethan.
In that moment of eye contact, he'd clearly told me that woman wasn't Rachel.
But he chose to cover up the truth with everyone else.
The police were still going to take me away. All the guests unanimously believed I was a spinster jealous of my best friend Rachel.
That I'd gone crazy at her wedding. They all thought they were making the most righteous choice.
"Miss Song, given that you deliberately assaulted someone, we must pursue legal action against you."
I bowed my head. My churning emotions escaped as tears.
At that moment, no one stood behind me.
No one believed my words.
In this extremely unfavorable situation, I persisted.
"She is not Rachel."
The police admired my stubbornness. "You can tell us everything back at the station..."
"I have evidence."
The triumph on Rachel's face vanished instantly. I picked up the white wedding dress from the floor and held it up.
"This dress is the evidence!"
"Stop talking nonsense! It's just an ordinary white wedding dress!"
I had the police check my bag. Inside was a yellowed medical report.
After reading the contents, they removed my handcuffs.
I handed the report to the officiant. "Read it."
The disdain on the officiant's face slowly transformed into confusion.
"Patient: Rachel Robert. Visual impairment patient, diagnosed with congenital color vision disorder, confirmed as complete color blindness."
Rachel turned deathly pale. She guiltily tried to grab the medical report.
I approached her step by step.
"She would never choose a white wedding dress."
"Because Rachel is black-and-white colorblind. Her world contains only black, white, and gray. She can only distinguish by light and dark. She has no idea what color the dress I prepared for her is!"
"But you accurately stated the dress's color. Who exactly are you?"
