New York winters were cold.

Tyler stood in the hallway of the Columbia University Art Department, looking at a photography exhibition hanging on the wall.

"Tyler, what are you looking at?" His wife, Emma, walked over and took his arm.

"Looking at this series." He pointed to a set of black-and-white street shots. "Really well taken."

"Indeed." Emma nodded. "By the way, that friend of yours posted on Instagram. Seems like they had a daughter."

Tyler took out his phone and saw the update from Ethan.

In the photo, Skylar was holding a tiny baby, smiling gently.

Caption: "My two treasures."

He liked the post and wrote in the comments: "Congrats, wishing your family happiness."

Emma looked at him. "Does it still hurt?"

"Not anymore." Tyler smiled. "I just wonder, if I had cherished her more back then, would the ending be different?"

"But there are no 'ifs' in life." Emma held his hand. "Besides, aren't we happy now too?"

"You're right." He turned to look at his wife, his eyes gentle. "I am very happy now."

Yes, he was happy now.

Emma was a gentle, kind girl. She understood him, supported him, and gave him enough space and freedom.

But sometimes, he would still think of that girl.

The girl who stayed by his side for eleven years, the girl he once thought would be there forever.

He finally understood a truth—

"Let's go, let's get dinner." Emma pulled his hand. "I want to try that new Italian place today."

"Okay."

Tyler put away his phone and walked out of the gallery holding his wife's hand.

Outside the window, snow began to fall.
