Eight Years in the Beast World Chapter 10
I didn't know how long I'd slept. Opening my eyes, I felt like my body would split in half.
My waist hurt terribly.
Getting up from the bed, I discovered my body had been cleaned.
Had Damien cleaned me? Had he also changed my clothes?
Yesterday was absurd. I'd stayed in the snake tribe long enough, and after what happened with Damien yesterday, it was time to leave.
I got up, preparing to call for the cub to leave.
But just as I walked toward the cave entrance, I ran into Damien returning with food.
He stared at me:
"Where are you going?"
I held my waist, expression unchanged:
"We've stayed in the snake tribe long enough. It's time to leave."
Damien stared at me, his tone firm:
"You're carrying my child now. You can't leave."
My eyes widened in disbelief as I looked at Damien.
Damien remained calm, gesturing behind him. Soon the cub came running over.
Its leg had completely healed, though now it looked at me pleadingly:
"Mother, can we stay in the snake tribe a while longer? I want to learn skills here so I can protect you in the future."
Damien used both carrot and stick, even throwing out the killer move about pregnancy. Without his permission, I truly couldn't leave snake tribe territory.
So I settled into the snake tribe.
Gradually, I discovered the snake tribe members were cold on the outside but warm within. After learning about my relationship with Damien, their smiles nearly reached their ears.
That's when I learned Damien had been perpetually single, enduring each mating season alone through sheer willpower. This was his first time with a female.
The snake tribe gave me a completely different feeling from the wolf tribe.
The snake tribe felt more like a big family, unlike the wolf tribe with its strict hierarchical system.
I remembered their kindness. I couldn't just idle around the tribe all day doing nothing.
I wanted to teach all the crop cultivation techniques to the snake tribe, but unexpectedly, they'd already learned them.
However, their techniques were immature, resulting in crops that were half dead, half alive.
I then learned they'd stolen these techniques from the wolf tribe.
Moreover, the snake king took this very seriously, even considering it crucial for the snake tribe to survive the dry season.
I hadn't expected Damien to have such foresight.
According to the system's calculations, the dry season was indeed approaching.
This dry season would be more severe than any before—even the great river might dry up.
Since I was now with the snake tribe, I needed to do something for them.
Damien had no objection to me having the snakes build irrigation channels—he even personally helped.
The snake tribe's caves were natural water storage locations. I'd already identified a pool deep within. With proper measures, it could absolutely store enough water for the entire tribe.
This was essentially a modern reservoir, just more rudimentary.
With water solved, there was food. With my guidance, the snake tribe's crop yields at least doubled.
But this wasn't enough. I'd recently discovered two new crops around the snake tribe—millet and rice.
These were true staple grains.
Under my guidance, both crops were successfully cultivated.
During this time, the cub—now called Adrian—hadn't been idle either. One ordinary day, he transformed into human form.
In the modern world, he'd definitely be a handsome young boy.
This child was very close to me. Since I'd saved him, he seemed to have claimed me, truly treating me as his mother.
He protected me and obeyed me.
Whenever Damien's expression looked off, he'd immediately position himself in front of me.
I also taught him much modern knowledge.
Now he was completely different from other young beast children his age.
And under Damien's constant attention, I eventually couldn't resist and agreed to be with him.
I never expected that in just one month, the child in my belly would be ready to be born.
