Eight Years in the Beast World Chapter 6
The snake king, Damien, lifted me before him, his vertical pupils staring intently at me.
"Who are you?"
The lion cub I'd rescued growled weakly on the ground with its lame leg.
Damien looked disdainful, not taking the young cub seriously at all.
He continued staring at me.
I looked at him nervously, never expecting to encounter the snake king just after leaving the wolf tribe.
Seeing my prolonged silence, Damien didn't mind.
His tail coiled around me, bringing me into his embrace.
His strong, powerful arms encircled my waist:
"Perfect. Our tribe is short a female."
Seeing I was about to be taken away, the lion cub I'd saved roared desperately.
Damien looked contemptuous:
"What is this crippled lion to you?"
My heart pounded. I had a feeling that if I said I had nothing to do with the cub, he'd kill it the next moment.
After all, conflicts between tribes were irreconcilable.
"My son. He's my son."
Both of them froze at my words.
Damien smiled, using his tail to lift the cub:
"Interesting. You're both coming with me."
Seeing the cub had survived, I breathed a sigh of relief.
But then I worried about our upcoming situation.
I'd heard of the snake tribe and their snake king—he was exceptionally formidable.
Escaping from the snake tribe would be difficult.
But given the current circumstances, I could only take things one step at a time.
After winding through passages and caves for a long time, we finally reached the snake tribe.
The moment the cub and I appeared, we drew the attention of all the snake people.
Damien mischievously set us down.
These snake people all eyed us menacingly.
I instinctively pulled the cub into my arms.
The cub first showed disbelief, then his eyes filled with tears.
This was the first time anyone had protected him like this.
However, these snake people only watched us warily without doing anything.
But I knew they were just waiting for their king Damien to give the order.
Suddenly, there was an outcry in the crowd.
"Chief, another young snake is dying!"
Hearing this, Damien's expression immediately turned serious. He quickly slithered to the side.
Watching Damien's massive snake tail, I felt frightened.
Earlier, I'd been coiled in that tail—if he'd applied just a bit more pressure, I would have died.
The cub sensed my tension. It stiffly extended its paw to pat me:
"Don't worry, I'll protect you."
Hearing the cub's tender voice, I smiled.
After all this time, this was the first time someone had shown concern for me—and it came from a lion cub.
I stroked the cub's head:
"Remember, to survive in the snake tribe, you must call me mother."
The cub nodded seriously.
After instructing the cub, my attention was quickly drawn to a young snake lying motionless nearby.
I'd seen these symptoms in the system's teachings.
This snake had gastroenteritis.
I looked at the other snakes lying around—quite a few of them.
And Damien stood anxiously to the side.
An idea immediately formed in my mind. Perhaps we really could survive in the snake tribe.
