Requiem for the Godfather Chapter 6
"Ava, did you buy these sheep?"
The voice of an enthusiastic neighbor rang out.
I turned around and smiled at her.
"Yes," I replied in fluent English. "I plan to live here for a long time."
"Hoping every day is a beautiful day."
After arriving in Australia, I used the money from my assets to buy a countryside estate.
It had a large pasture.
Raising a few cows and sheep was the perfect way to pass the time.
As for the mess in the US, I didn't want to care anymore.
The rival family was waiting for the right moment to strike.
Meanwhile, Scarlett's world had turned upside down.
The rumors of Scarlett being a "homewrecker" and the Mafia heir cheating surged to the top of the trending list again.
This time, the evidence was complete. Many people raised questions.
Like the timeline of my photos with Julian.
Like Scarlett's provocative voice messages.
And many of my high school classmates jumped out to prove my relationship with Julian.
They probably got paid, but the evidence they provided was real.
Scarlett's social media comments were a war zone.
"Actually, I wanted to say last time that the marriage certificate had no Photoshop traces. But you all said I was blind."
"Absolutely disgusting. How do these cheaters dare to be so arrogant?"
"Didn't Scarlett's fans call her a Fearless Queen? Provoking the wife and bragging about the cheater's love makes her a Queen?"
"I can't imagine how painful it was for the wife to be forced to apologize."
"Scarlett, get out of Hollywood!"
"Scumbag, get off the planet!"
"Scarlett's fans better come out and apologize too!"
...
None of this had anything to do with me anymore.
I found a new helper to manage the weeds on the estate.
The work was too heavy for me alone.
The helper was a local guy named Ethan.
He was 20, blonde, with freckles, and a smile that was pure sunshine.
"Ava, I want to eat your roast ribs again. Let's go buy some, okay?"
Hearing him act cute, I found it funny.
I nodded.
I never expected to run into a red-eyed Julian on the street.
I was loading grocery bags into the trunk with Ethan.
Ethan shook his head like a puppy.
"Ava, I'm sweaty."
I wiped his forehead with a tissue.
Then I heard that familiar voice.
"Ava, care to explain who this is?"
Julian stood behind me, staring death daggers at us.
I turned around. After a brief moment of surprise, I returned to calm.
"Can I help you?"
Ethan looked at him confusedly, then asked me, "Ava, who is this?"
I said lightly, "Ex-husband."
Julian’s face darkened visibly. He looked at Ethan.
He sneered. "So soon? You found a boy toy in a foreign country?"
Ethan didn't quite understand the term "boy toy," but he knew it wasn't nice.
So he nodded on purpose. "Yeah, yeah. I am Ava's boy toy."
Julian was shaking with rage. He stepped forward, trying to grab my hand.
"Come back with me. We're remarrying."
Hearing his tone of entitlement, I finally snapped.
I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face. "Don't touch me! You disgust me!"
Julian’s head snapped to the side. Before he could get angry, he heard the revulsion in my voice.
He froze. After a long while, he pursed his lips. "I didn't know Mom passed away that day."
"Ava, I wouldn't be that cruel."
I laughed. "So what?"
Julian said firmly, "Come home. I can overlook you and this boy toy."
I laughed out loud.
I raised my hand to slap him again, but he caught my wrist.
Without hesitating, I lifted my leg and kicked him hard.
Julian stumbled back, face pale, looking at me in disbelief.
