The Alpha's Exiled Mate Chapter 256
Freya’s POV
The moment froze between us. Thorne stood at the forest's edge, his entire body radiating Alpha power. The warm evening air suddenly felt charged with electricity, making the fine hairs on my arms stand on end. My wolf, already agitated by his presence, pressed against my consciousness, urging me to submit, to lower my gaze—but the human part of me refused.
Jasper remained beside me, his posture relaxed but alert. The casual friendliness that had defined our afternoon together had been replaced by something more primal. His scent changed subtly, taking on sharper notes of cedar and stone.
Thorne stepped forward, his movements deliberately slow as he emerged fully from the tree line into the fading sunlight. His tailored suit looked out of place in this natural setting, yet somehow he seemed more at home here than I'd ever seen him in his courtroom or office. His eyes remained fixed on me, golden wolf-light illuminating their depths.
"Alpha Stone," Thorne's voice was cold enough to freeze the summer air between us. "You've been lingering in my territory far too long."
Jasper's lips curled into a challenging smile. "Public parks are open to all wolves, including visiting Alphas." His tone was light but laced with unmistakable defiance. "Or has Moon Bay changed its hospitality laws while I wasn't looking?"
The tension between them crackled like lightning. Small animals in the underbrush scattered, sensing the danger of two apex predators squaring off. Nearby park visitors began discreetly gathering their belongings, parents herding children away from our vicinity.
I stepped forward, attempting to defuse the situation before it escalated further. "We were just enjoying the park," I said, trying to keep my voice even. "Getting some fresh air."
Thorne's gaze shifted to me, his expression hardening. "Freya, you need to come with me now. There are important matters we need to discuss."
"Important matters?" I echoed, unable to keep the bitterness from my voice. "What could possibly be so important that you tracked me here?"
Before Thorne could answer, Jasper moved slightly, positioning himself half a step in front of me. It wasn't an aggressive move, but the meaning was clear—he was offering protection.
"She doesn't seem eager to leave, Alpha Thorne," Jasper said, his voice deceptively casual. "Perhaps your discussion can wait for another day."
Thorne's shoulders tensed visibly, his jaw tightening as his eyes flashed brighter gold. "This is not your concern, Alpha Stone. This is between me and a member of my territory."
"A member who was recently assaulted while under your protection," Jasper countered, his own eyes beginning to gleam with wolf-light. "A member who clearly needed space you weren't providing."
I felt trapped between them, their Alpha energies pressing in from both sides, making it difficult to breathe. The few remaining park visitors were now hurrying away, sensing the impending confrontation.
"Step aside," Thorne growled, his voice dropping an octave.
Jasper didn't move. "And if I don't?"
The challenge hung in the air between them. I could feel my wolf growing increasingly agitated, responding to the primal nature of what was unfolding before me. This wasn't just two men arguing—this was two Alphas establishing dominance, with me somehow at the center of their conflict.
"Please," I started, not even sure what I was asking for. "This isn't—"
My words were cut off by a deep, rumbling growl that seemed to emanate from Thorne's chest. It wasn't human—it was pure wolf, a sound that bypassed rational thought and struck directly at the instinctive part of my brain. My wolf whimpered in response, recognizing the sound of an Alpha preparing to fight.
"Last warning," Thorne said, his voice barely recognizable.
Jasper's only response was a challenging smile that displayed the tips of elongating canines.
The transition happened so quickly I barely registered the movement. One moment Thorne stood in his pristine suit, and the next, fabric tore as his body contorted and expanded. Silver-white fur erupted across his skin as he dropped to all fours, completing the shift to wolf form in seconds.
Thorne's wolf was massive, larger than any I'd seen before. His silver-white coat gleamed in the dying light, muscles rippling beneath it as he stalked forward, lips pulled back to reveal gleaming fangs.
Jasper didn't hesitate. With a fluid motion that spoke of years of practice, he stripped off his jacket and shirt, tossing them aside before allowing his own shift to take hold. Where Thorne's transformation had been explosive, Jasper's was controlled, almost elegant. His wolf emerged with a shudder of silver-black fur, only slightly smaller than Thorne but more heavily muscled across the shoulders.
Two enormous wolves now faced each other in the clearing, hackles raised, tails stiff. The silver-white of Thorne's coat against the silver-black of Jasper's created a stark visual contrast as they circled each other, neither willing to be the first to break eye contact.
I backed away, my heart pounding so loudly I was sure they could hear it. This was madness—two Alphas fighting in a public park. Yet I couldn't deny the primal part of me that responded to their display, my wolf stirring with interest at the sight of two powerful males competing.
The first attack came from Thorne, a lightning-fast lunge that Jasper barely evaded. His jaws snapped shut on empty air as Jasper pivoted and countered with a strike of his own, teeth grazing Thorne's shoulder. They separated, circling again, each assessing the other's strengths and weaknesses.
The next clash was more violent. They met in the center of the clearing with snarls that echoed through the trees, bodies colliding with enough force that I felt the impact in my chest. Jasper fought with raw power, each movement designed to overwhelm through sheer strength. Thorne was more calculated, his attacks precise and timed, using Jasper's momentum against him.
Trees cracked as their massive bodies slammed against trunks. Earth was torn up beneath their paws. A nearby picnic table was reduced to splinters when Jasper was thrown into it, only to rise immediately and launch himself back into the fight.
I stood frozen, unable to look away. This wasn't the controlled violence of the courtroom or the structured power of Alpha politics—this was pure, ancient wolf law being enacted before me. The law of strength and dominance that underpinned all our civilized structures.
Blood darkened Jasper's silver-black coat where Thorne's teeth had found purchase at his neck. Thorne wasn't unscathed either; a deep scratch ran along his flank, matting his pristine fur. Yet neither showed any sign of yielding.
As the fight intensified, I noticed Thorne's movements becoming slightly slower. His breathing was more labored, his attacks a fraction less precise. He was still formidable, still dangerous, but something wasn't right. Jasper seemed to sense it too, pressing his advantage with renewed vigor.
With a powerful lunge, Jasper caught Thorne off balance, knocking him to the ground. He moved quickly to pin Thorne, jaws poised above the vulnerable throat area—not biting down, but establishing clear dominance. A tremor ran through Thorne's massive form, but his eyes remained defiant, glowing with golden fury.
In that moment, I saw what was about to happen. Thorne would never submit—not here, not with me watching. He would rather suffer a mortal wound than yield to another Alpha in his own territory. And Jasper, driven by instinct and pride, might not be able to stop himself from delivering that wound.
"Stop!" I screamed, rushing forward despite the danger. "Enough! Both of you!"
