The Day Ethan Got Married Chapter 8
After they got home, I watched Ethan stare at his and Claire's wedding photo for a long time.
I didn't know what he was thinking. Whether he was thinking of me.
It had been our one-year anniversary. I'd known from early on we probably had no future.
So I'd suggested we take anniversary photos.
I wanted to capture all the beautiful moments.
That way, even if he was gone someday, I could live out my life with these photographs.
I'd begged him for so long, and he'd finally agreed.
But on the day of the shoot, as I was showing him dress options for his opinion, he got a phone call.
"Jules, something came up at work. I have to go. Next time—next time when I'm free, I'll come with you."
Seeing his urgent expression, I'd nodded instinctively to agree.
He'd already turned and left.
I understood then. It was a notification, not a request.
We never took those photos. The whole thing was forgotten.
It wasn't that he didn't have time for photos. He just didn't have time for photos with me.
Love or lack thereof—it was crystal clear.
