Beneath the Perfect Disguise, I Quietly Slipped Away Chapter 12
A conversation that should have happened long ago.
Connor pinched the bridge of his nose. His eyelashes were long, his eye sockets deep, carrying fatigue.
"That night downstairs, Madison kissed me too fast. I didn't dodge it."
"Just like how Lucian got close to you just now."
"But you've been angry long enough. You've run far enough."
"I'm sorry. Can we go home now?"
I didn't expect that even at this stage, Connor still thought I was throwing a tantrum.
My words stuck in my throat, turning into a ridiculous laugh.
"I don't care about what happens between you and Madison anymore."
"Connor, I said we're done. I meant it."
At this point, I certainly wouldn't think Connor chased me here because he loved me.
He was probably just used to being the one in charge, unaccustomed to the person always following him suddenly disappearing.
Perhaps my answer was something Connor had never predicted.
His expression went blank.
This was the confidence I gave him.
After all, in the past, I was always the one in this relationship terrified of loss, the one who surrendered first.
He opened his mouth, his tone stunned.
"Why?"
I used to ask "why" hysterically.
Connor always said there was nothing to explain.
Coming to this point, I suddenly understood him back then with a stroke of insight.
Because he didn't care, there was no need to explain.
I spoke calmly.
"No reason. It doesn't matter anymore."
"I don't love you anymore. We broke up. It's normal."
Connor scrutinized me, taking a long time to speak.
"You're just mad at me."
His eyes were dark and determined.
"You want to break up? Fine. Then I'll chase you all over again."
