My Ex-Boyfriend Regretted It After We Broke Up Chapter 6
Two years ago, before a charity gala, Julian had casually promised to buy me crystal earrings to match my gown.
He had finally fulfilled that promise.
Too bad I no longer needed them.
"Chloe, won't you try them on?"
He looked at me with expectation in his deep eyes.
After a few seconds of silence, I picked up the beautiful earrings.
But I didn't put them on.
I weighed them in my palm, then turned my wrist and let them fall. They shattered against the hard tile floor.
Shards of crystal bounced onto Julian’s expensive suit pants.
I noticed then that his calf was covered in bloody puncture wounds from the dog bite. The blood was soaking through the fabric.
I pretended not to see it.
"The gift is ugly. I don't like it. Is there anything else? If not, I'm leaving."
He crushed his plastic cup, spilling ice coffee onto his cuff. The man who usually freaked out over a speck of dust didn't even flinch.
He rubbed his temple as a vein throbbed. He gave me a humorless smile.
"Chloe, how long are you going to keep acting? Hm?"
"You sent emails threatening Sienna to resign. You picked the exact moment she needs heart surgery abroad to stage this break-up. I’ve overlooked all the messy things you’ve done because of our history."
"I just want to know what you want. You want to get married right now? Fine. Let's go to City Hall. We’ll get the license as soon as the sun comes up."
Julian grabbed my arm, yanking me closer.
"Julian."
I pulled my arm out of his grip with a look of disgust. I had no desire to clarify the lies Sienna had fed him.
I spoke slowly and clearly.
"I will say this one last time. We are broken up. I will not marry you. I have no demands. If we meet at an alumni event, pretend you don't know me."
There was no hysterical screaming. No tears.
I stood up, walked to the counter, and ordered three Caramel Lattes with full sugar to go.
Panic finally flooded Julian’s eyes.
He chased me out of the diner, his face pale.
"Chloe, I was your first love."
I looked at him calmly. "So?"
"You were the one who confessed to me, blushing. You said you’d never loved anyone like that... At graduation, we promised to be together forever. No matter what."
He started to stutter.
"So... you can't just leave because you're bored. That's not fair to me."
I laughed.
"You didn't actually believe that sweet talk from the honeymoon phase, did you?"
