My Ex-Boyfriend Regretted It After We Broke Up Chapter 7

The day after I accepted Julian’s proposal, I stood outside his office and heard him comforting Sienna. She was crying fake tears, congratulating him.

He told her: "I don't love Chloe. She’s just been hanging around me like a loyal pug for so long, I had to toss her a bone to stop her from crying."

Julian said he didn't love me.

Ironically, now that I was the one breaking promises, he looked like he’d been shot.

I hailed a yellow cab.

As I opened the door, I heard Julian issue his final ultimatum, his voice full of arrogance.

"Chloe, you know my personality. If you leave now, we are truly finished..."

I slammed the car door before he could finish his sentence.

One month passed in the blink of an eye.

I was busy renovating my apartment and hunting for a job.

God was watching out for me. Although it was hard work, I got my dream home and a new career that paid better and was far more interesting.

As for Julian, mutual friends occasionally mentioned him.

They said he was working himself to death. He stopped going to social events.

He was so busy he "forgot" to delete the pinned post on Facebook about our upcoming wedding.

I didn't react. My time was too valuable to waste on a stranger.

On a Friday evening, early in the month.

I rushed through rush hour traffic to make it to a christening party for a college classmate's daughter.

In the elegant hotel ballroom, I gave the baby a pure gold longevity lock necklace.

During the party, old friends came over to chat.

The last one to approach was Gabriel Thorne.

He was two years below me in law school. We knew each other because I was the president of the Debate Club, and he was the vice president.

When Gabriel left my table, he left behind two hangover gummies.

My female classmate nudged me. "Chloe, to be honest, I couldn't have invited a legal superstar like him. He asked for your contact info and only came when I confirmed you’d be here."

I left the party early. Coincidentally, Gabriel was leaving too.

In the elevator, the handsome man who hadn't touched a drop of alcohol spoke up.

"Chloe, let me drive you home."

I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously. "Why so nice? It’s been years... are you still trying to usurp my position as Debate Club President?"

Gabriel chuckled, covering a cough. Before he could respond to my joke, the elevator doors opened to the underground garage.

Outside stood a man I least expected to see.
