Parents and Son Under Attack Chapter 9
I spent the most relaxed period of my life in high school. I even stayed in the dorm most of winter and summer breaks, using studying as an excuse.
The Grant parents couldn't be bothered managing me. I heard they were taking Ethan everywhere seeking treatment while also dragging him to various tutoring classes. They were so busy they half-neglected the family business and even cut my allowance considerably. Fortunately, I'd already achieved financial freedom and could live comfortably without relying on the Grant family at all.
From a young age I'd had an eye for investing in artwork, but in my previous life, Dad and Ethan manipulated me, making me think mixing art with money was shameful.
They talked a good game but secretly resold paintings I'd chosen to make money, never sharing a cent with me. This life I'd seen through them early and only asked my most trusted principal to help invest. Watching the numbers in my bankbook continuously grow, I felt unprecedented security. Having the ability to support myself was truly most important.
This weekend, the principal and Sarah specially set aside time to take me to a nearby park for a picnic. The principal went to park the car while Sarah and I found a spot on the lawn first. I'd been looking forward to this day, but my good mood vanished completely when I saw the Grant family walking toward us.
Ethan held Lily's hand walking in front, with my long-unseen saint-like parents following behind. Seeing me, the brilliant smiles on their faces also froze.
Seeing me, Ethan immediately acted timid and hid behind Lily, as if I might eat him. This delicate white lotus act triggered Lily's protective instincts. The look in her eyes toward me instantly turned much fiercer.
"Always saying you're studying, but you've been lying."
Ethan saw Sarah walking beside me and bit his lower lip somewhat unwillingly:
"Brother Caleb, are you on a date with your girlfriend? Mom and Dad are so worried about you, yet you don't even come home during breaks. You even lied to us. You've changed since starting high school..."
My saint-like parents also looked at me and Sarah in shock:
"Caleb Grant, at such a young age you're already deceiving your parents for a woman. Are you trying to anger us to death!"
"When will you ever be as good and obedient as Ethan!"
The four of them threw accusation after accusation at me without even giving me a chance to explain. Even having heard about the Grant family's favoritism, Sarah was still dazed by their combo attacks.
