ALICE

I walk hand in hand with Archer to the room the doctor pointed to.

The thought of seeing my mother clouded my mind more, and knowing she would be heartbroken due to my dad's death didn't make it any easier for me.

Many people who lose their mates can go one of two ways. The first one is where the other mate dies due to heartbreak. The second one is living, but knowing that the person you loved was your soulmate, you would have to find a way to move forward, or it could make you a shell of a person you were once before. It is hard to think what my mother would do as I want her with me, but I don't want her to be a shell of herself.

My heart broke just thinking about it.

My mum loved my dad more than anything in this whole world. She was the glue that held us together, and she always put us all first, especially Izzy, Allie, and me.

But my dad was her light in the dark, her soulmate. It is hard to think about him as I lost my father.

A tear slides down my face.

I reach the door and place my hand on the handle, not knowing what I will see.

Archer squeezes my hand, and I glance down to see his eyes looking up at me.

"You scared," he asks me in a quiet voice.

I close my eyes; I try to compose myself.

I opened my eyes as another tear slid down my cheek, "I am," I said to him.

Archer squeezes my hand, "I'm here with you," he says.

This child is the sweetest.

I open the door and walk in.

All I could hear as the door opened was beeping. I glanced towards the bed, and there was my mum. Her face was pale, but she had wires all around her.

There was a stand beside the bed holding a few bags connected to her wires.

I slowly walked over to the bed, where a chair was placed.

I took the seat on the chair and placed my hand on hers. Her hand was cold like ice.

My mum's features were prominent, and I could see her cheeks sunken in while she was white as a sheet.

I could hear someone shuffling towards me.

I know it's Archer, but a cold hand touches mine, making me look at him.

He stared at my mum.

I don't know much about this child, but he has taken to my mum.

We don't say anything but say in silence for a while.

After what seemed like a long time, I started to feel something lean on me. I glance down and realize Archer is getting tired.

I move my hand from my mum's and place my hands around his waist. I pick him up and set him on my lap. His head falls back onto my shoulder. I lean back into the chair but glance down and notice Archer is asleep.

I lean back and watch my mum once again.

Suddenly I hear the door open; I look towards it and see my mate walking in. His eyes were on my mum.

He walks over to me, his eyes never leaving my mum.

He bends down when he reaches me and places his hand on mine.

"You okay, my love," he asks as he moves my hand to his mouth, placing a tender kiss on my knuckles.

His eyes roam my face as I stare at him. I don't know what I would do if he weren't here with me.

I gave a small sigh, "I think so, but I want her to be okay and to be awake," I said in a small voice.

Paul stares at me, "She will be; we will look after her," he says.

His eyes leave my face, and he looks towards Archer, "What's going on with him?" He asks.

I stared at him, "I think he likes her; he's worried about her," I said.

Paul nods but keeps looking at him.

"I know Izzy asked my parents to take him in as he needed a family," I say to him, "They had Allie and Archer when the war came. She was going tell me in the morning about the whole thing, but I knew as our panthers were talking."

Paul looks at me but glances towards the bed.

His eyes go wide in shock as he stares.

I turned to look towards the bed, and my mum was moving her head. I move, which makes Archer move too. We both watch as she starts to open her eyes.

She stares at me, but the tears come, and she screams loudly, which makes Archer, Paul, and I place our hands over our ears.

My mum screams, but something hits me hard throughout our family link. The pain, she cried, but there was so much pain.

The pack doctor runs in and tries to settle her down, but all that escapes from her mouth is "MY MATES GONE," she screams.

A nurse comes in with a needle and hands it to the doctor. He places the needle into one of the tubes, and as soon as he presses it into the tube, my mum starts to fall back asleep.

After a few seconds, the doctor looks at me with concern, "We have put her in a sudation," he says, "She's to rest."

I stare at him but look back at my mum.

"We will take her off the sedation in a few days, but we can revise the whole thing later," he says.

I don't say anything.

My mum was in pain, and this was not going to be good if she was like that again when they woke her up again.

This could make her ill, or even worse, it could kill her.

I could feel wetness on my face.

I placed my hand on my cheek and soon realized that I was crying again.

I need my mum, but this could break her, and knowing that is ruining me.
