The silence in the boardroom was a physical weight. Ivy could feel the judgmental stares, the collective intake of breath waiting for her to break—to cry, to deny, to crumble. Selena’s smirk was a barely concealed victory dance.

Ivy did none of those things. She slowly rose from her seat, her movements deliberate and unnervingly calm. The panic had been instantaneous, a white-hot flash, but it had been immediately consumed by a colder, more formidable resolve. This was the move she had anticipated, the checkmate attempt. But Caleb and Selena had underestimated her. They thought they were playing against the woman she had been. They had no idea who she had become.

“Charges of corporate espionage are a serious matter,” she said, her voice clear and steady, cutting through the thick tension. It wasn’t a plea. It was a statement of fact. She looked at each board member in turn, forcing them to meet her gaze. “They require irrefutable proof. What you’ve presented is a circumstantial narrative built on fabricated data trails.”

Selena scoffed. “Fabricated? The server logs don’t lie, Ivy.”

“No, they don’t,” Ivy agreed, a sharp smile touching her lips. It was a predator’s smile, and it made Selena falter. “Which is why I formally request, before this goes any further, that the board convene a full technical review. Not of me, but of ‘Athena’ itself.”

She paused, letting the unexpected turn hang in the air.

“I propose we hold a live demonstration. A deep dive into the code, the architecture, the raw data. Let my work speak for itself. Let the technology prove its integrity and its origin. If there has been a leak, the evidence will be in the divergence of the codebases. If there hasn’t…” she let the implication hang in the air, her eyes locking back on Selena, “…then this will expose the real agenda behind these accusations.”

It was a gambit of breathtaking audacity. She wasn’t defending herself; she was going on the offensive. She was demanding the one thing they never wanted to give her: a platform. She was calling their bluff, betting everything that the ‘Athena’ she had built in the shadows was so superior, so demonstrably her own, that it would shatter their flimsy narrative.

The board members stirred, murmuring amongst themselves. A technical review was a reasonable, objective request. To deny it would look like a cover-up. Selena’s confidence visibly wavered, replaced by a flicker of panic. She hadn’t prepared for this. She had expected tears, not a challenge to a duel of code.

“This is highly irregular,” the chairman said, frowning.

“So are public accusations of felony crimes based on fabricated evidence,” Ivy replied, her tone never wavering. “I am staking my professional reputation on the integrity of my work. I am asking you to do the same. Let ‘Athena’ speak. Or are you afraid of what it will say?”

The challenge was laid. The room was hers. They had tried to bury her, and she had just handed them a shovel, asking them to dig deeper.

The chairman exchanged a long look with the legal counsel, who gave a slight, wary nod. “Very well,” the chairman said, his voice heavy with reluctance. “We will schedule a technical review. One week. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your project’s integrity.”

Ivy gave a single, curt nod. “Thank you.”
