The Forgotten Necklace of the Moon Goddess Chapter 4
When I arrived, Killian and Sienna were having dinner.
The massive dining table was laden with exquisite steaks and vintage red wine.
He glanced at me, his tone flat.
"Finally willing to come back?"
"Why did you make the manager fire me?"
I asked, my face void of emotion, ignoring his question.
"Five years, Killian. Haven't you humiliated me enough?"
He raised an eyebrow, unbothered.
"If you don't suffer, how will you learn that the pack is your only true sanctuary?"
"Nora, do you know what people are saying about you out there? The rumors about how you entertain rogue wolves? I've suppressed the worst of it so it wouldn't reach your ears. You should be grateful."
Sienna put down her knife and fork, her voice dripping with fake sweetness.
"Killian is doing this for your own good, sister. Look at you. You're blaming him when he's trying to save you."
"Shut up!"
I snapped. I lunged forward, raising my hand to slap her.
But in a split second, my wrist was caught in a vice grip.
Killian’s strength was overwhelming compared to my weakened state.
His face was dark, eyes cold.
"Trying to hit people now? I see you still haven't learned where you went wrong!"
"Do you believe me if I say I can make it impossible for you to live in this state?"
My heart constricted violently.
Make it impossible to live?
Hasn't he been doing that for years?
Destroying my jobs. Crushing my hope.
Making me lower than a sewer rat, full of holes, unable to afford a simple wooden box for my ashes.
I was done. I was so done with his threats.
I broke. I screamed like a banshee. "I didn't do anything wrong!"
"Killian, if you want me to suffer so much, fine! I'll just die! Is that enough for you?"
"I'll go to hell, and you won't be able to control me there!"
My words seemed to trigger him. Veins popped on his forehead, and his pheromones exploded outward, crushing the air out of my lungs.
"Even if you die, you will always owe me!"
He shoved me.
He didn't use much force, really. But for me, it was a heavy blow.
I crashed to the floor, my lower back slamming into the table leg. The pain drained the color from my world, and cold sweat drenched my back.
A flash of regret crossed Killian's eyes. He turned his back on me.
"Until you redeem Mom's necklace, you don't even have the right to die!"
With that, he stormed out of the dining room.
I couldn't get up. The pain was blinding.
Sienna stood over me, looking down with a smirk, arms crossed.
"Sister, look at you. Pathetic."
"Tell you what. Get on your knees, bow your head to the floor and beg me like a dog, and I'll tell you who I sold that tacky necklace to. Deal?"
I stared at her, eyes bloodshot, wishing I could shift and rip her throat out.
But I knew I didn't have the energy to transform.
I had lived in humiliation for five years. I didn't expect to lose my last shred of dignity right before the end.
Killian's words echoed in my ears.
“Until you redeem Mom's necklace, you don't even have the right to die!”
Fine.
If I get the necklace back, I can finally die in peace, right?
I wiped the desperate tears from my face. I got on my knees at Sienna's feet.
I bowed my head to the floor three times. Thud. Thud. Thud.
"Please. Tell me where Mom's necklace is."
In the past, when she schemed against me, I fought back tooth and nail.
But this time, I didn't say a word.
Sienna seemed bored by my submission.
She tossed a crumpled piece of paper at me.
"Here's the address of the pawnshop in the Neutral Zone. But good luck getting it back, sister."
