The Unwanted Daughter: When Love Comes Too Late Chapter 335: How to Repay?
These days, Tracy and Ronald were working side by side, going after Preston and Matthew, piece by piece, exposing the dirty truth behind the Angelic Etiquette Academy.
This journey was full of danger, with their lives constantly at risk and little chance of success.
Still, Ronald and Tracy have never lost their drive to uncover the truth, no matter what.
Every time they managed to save another victim dumped into that nightmare place by the academy, they felt lucky they chose this path.
Along the way, more and more people stepped up, joining them to fight against the horrors of that hellish world.
And just like that, ten years had passed.
No one really knew what Tracy and Ronald went through over those ten years.
All anyone saw was the countless volunteers who risked their lives to expose the dark truth of the Angelic Etiquette Academy. Many almost died, but none ever gave up.
When the academy was finally shut down, Ronald and Tracy went straight to the cemetery.
Eleven graves. Nine with names carved into the stone, two still empty.
Derek, David, Yvonne, Lynne Duran, Jessie Lewis, Lana Stewart, Reid Brooks, Emil Whitmire, Jose Randle ...
Here, they were no longer "number one" or "number two," like branded strays from the academy. Here, they finally got to rest under their real names.
Tracy had made sure their last wishes were honored, giving them tombstones and peace at last.
With that heavy weight finally lifted, Ronald and Tracy seemed much more relaxed, their faces softening with ease.
Ronald held Tracy's hand gently, a soft smile on his face. "So, CeeCee, what do you want to do next?"
The question caught her off guard.
For a whole decade, all she'd thought about was taking down the Angelic Etiquette Academy and finishing the work for everyone who never made it. She had never let herself dream beyond that.
But life was short—how many decades did one get?
Tracy turned her eyes to the two empty graves, stood there in silence, and finally whispered, "I want to travel."
Maybe it was because, like Erin once said, this whole world was like a "novel." For so long, she had never stepped outside Cloudville. Back then, she hadn't even thought it was strange.
Later, her mind was trapped in petty fights over affection, circling inside the little world of the Angelic Etiquette Academy.
But now, she felt a strong urge to see what the world outside was really like.
Ronald understood without her saying more. He tightened his grip on her hand. "Then I'll go with you."
He, too, wanted to see the world without chains—the world beyond the Wests.
"Warning! Warning!"
"Host death detected. ‘The Beloved Little Heiress' mission failed in the novel world!"
"Warning! Warning!"
A crushing pain tore through the back of Erin's skull. Fear wrapped around her like a net she couldn't escape.
Only when that cold, robotic voice rang out did she suck in a sharp breath and snap back to awareness.
She was gasping for air, her heartbeat loud in her ears.
It took a moment, but she finally remembered to check herself.
Arms and legs were fine, no injuries anywhere, and even the ache in her head had vanished.
Erin was delighted.
She wasn't dead?
As if reading her mind, the system's voice spoke again. "Host, in the real world, you died in a car accident after being chased and beaten in public for being a mistress. That's why you were chosen to enter the novel world to seize the heroine's luck.
"But the NPC body the host is occupying in the novel world has already died, so technically, the host is dead both in the real world and the novel world."
Erin flinched at the voice, but quickly realized it was the same system that had always been with her. She rushed to ask, "Then what's happening to me right now?"
The system replied, "The host only borrowed an NPC body in the novel world. Once the body dies, the host's soul is forced to leave."
Erin hesitated, a bit frustrated. "Then give me another NPC body. I want to start the mission over.
"This time, I want a role at least as high as Tracy Jackman's—so no one would dare mess with me so easily."
She was convinced her failure had been because the body she'd taken over was too low-ranked—easy for the Jackmans and Norris to crush.
But the system's answer hit her like a ton of bricks, "There is only one chance. The host has failed the mission and must face punishment."
Erin's heart raced. "W-What ... What kind of punishment?"
The system's voice was cold and robotic. "The host's mission was to replace the chosen child of luck, steal the heroine's luck, and share half with the system. Since the mission failed—and since the host borrowed the system's power on credit—you must repay that debt another way, along with half of the luck owed."
Erin didn't fully understand what "another way" meant, but a sick, heavy dread filled her gut. "How to repay?"
