A fearless warrior in black—the night suit fitting tightly on his slim athletic body, stood on the battlefield. His golden hair resembled sunrays, and his eyes—mountain emeralds. He was like a wild northern barbarian who was determined to win. All her thoughts were about Raiden at that moment. Akira couldn’t understand why life had brought her back again to that golden-haired

demon. Why hadn’t he come back for her? Why hadn’t he searched for her? Now, he had come just to take her life. She wasn’t going to let him do that.

Raiden sighed, no longer trying to fight his inner emotions. He threw his weapon at Akira’s feet, firmly grasping the idea that he couldn’t live if he killed her.

“I can’t do it.” Raiden lowered his head guiltily, relaxing his tense shoulders. “Kill me if you choose. Though I can’t kill you.”

“Look who’s talking!” Akira mocked him with her blue eyes, showing all her disdain. “Weren’t you the one who had left me alone in the village at the mercy of the enemy? I thought they would destroy me, but now I’m one of them. For once in your life, admit that you were scared. Admit that you didn’t care to take responsibility and take me to the war!”

“Stop it!” Raiden growled, realizing that Akira would never forgive him. What should he be forgiven for? She was right. “I was defending our village from the enemies. I—”

“And you defended it,” Akira interrupted him with an evil grin on her face. “Now, I’m your enemy. Fight or die!”

Akira raised her sword to her shoulder level, taking a fighting position. Her whole body eloquently spoke that she wouldn’t back down.

Raiden didn’t take any step to pick up his sword. Even the thought of harming Akira made his body quiver.

“Raise your sword!” Akira yelled at him, tears welling in her eyes. “Fight like a warrior.”

“I can only love you when I’m with you,” he whispered, hearing a sharp whistle over his head. Raiden felt that Akira was ready to cut off his head. He calmly closed his eyes, holding the belief that to die from the sword of his beloved would be the most beautiful death.

Something changed. Akira’s sword touched his neck and froze a few centimeters from his carotid artery. He opened his eyes, meeting Akira’s.

Did they express anger, sadness, and...doubt? He didn’t know what to believe until Akira spoke.

“Raiden, I can’t kill you when you’re defenseless.”

“I will not fight you.” He held no desire to be the murderer of his Akira. There would be no more time for the remission of his sins.

“Damn you!” Akira held her sword up, and tears gushed into her eyes. The next second, she passionately pounced on Raiden’s lips, feeling the warmth and love that covered her. Her palms were on his neck, giving it all the passion and desire which had accumulated over the years when she had thought that Raiden was no longer alive and that he was killed in the war.

And now, seeing him on the battlefield, she thanked God for sparing his life. She also cursed the fate that made Raiden her enemy.
