As we walked up to the enormous double doors, I was in awe. They were made of a deeply dark brown wood with gigantic glass panes and were covered with intricate wrought iron. They swung open as if they knew we were coming. The grand foyer seemed as though it was filled with gold as the light flood out to where I stood. There were two stairways making almost a full circle going up to a second floor. Golden railings wrapped them all the way up with a black carpet covering their steps. Everything seemed so surreal.

There were four people at beautiful dark wooden tables adorned with the most exquisite masks I’d ever seen. A shorter woman with fiery red hair, wearing nothing more than silver body paint and a mask covered in silver and gold leaves that must have been taken from a magical realm of the gods. The mask covered everything but her entrancing emerald eyes that glowed with a deep green fire.

Looking at me, she said with a haunting smile, “I have the perfect mask for you.”

She handed me a mask that made me feel like a young girl in its eloquent playfulness. The little silk cat mask had beautiful black crystals surrounding the eyes and the whiskers. All around the edges there was a raven-black delicate lace. As she placed it on my face, she slowly rubbed

 her finger down my cheek. I gave her a shy smile and she assured me that I would have an amazing night.

We were ushered towards an elevator that took us two stories up. As the doors opened, it was like nothing I had ever seen. There were golden drapes flowing from the ceiling. You couldn’t even see the walls through the beautiful gold fabric that seemed to cover everything. The stone floors were made of what seemed to be ivory.

At least three dozen nearly naked “beautiful people” wandered around, touching each other and drinking their champagne while nibbling on their finger foods. The servers were wearing nothing but little bow ties around their necks and the same gold and silver leaf masks on their faces. It wasn’t very long after we had begun navigating through this fantasy-inspired room.

Misty raised my hand and gave it a quick kiss before telling me, “I hope you have fun, but I probably won’t actually see you until the morning.”

I could hear her childish giggle as she skipped her way into the masses.

I felt completely out of place in this Shakespearean scene. I didn’t know what to do. My eyes wandered around the room, and I found myself watching a few different people. Men and woman alike came up to me to introduce themselves by whatever alias they had chosen.
