Betrayed by My Alpha Boyfriend

On the day my best friend broke up with her boyfriend, she dragged me to a downtown club and ordered a whole lineup of male dancers.

She said she needed me there for moral support.

The door to the VIP booth across from us was slightly ajar.

That was how I spotted my boyfriend, Lucas.

He was holding a girl, kissing her with a hunger that made the air thick with suspicious hormones.

When the girl lifted her head, I froze.

Her eyes and brows looked exactly like mine did when I was younger.

Later, people in the pack would laugh about Lucas.

My best friend, Chloe, had her arms around two muscular dancers.

Her eyes were red from drinking, but she didn't forget to poke fun at me.

"Ayla, you and Lucas have been mates for ten years. Why hasn’t he held the official Mating Ceremony yet? Is that old dog messing around behind your back?"

Lucas and I spent a lot of time apart.

As the Alpha of the Silver Lake Pack, he was always busy. Our bond wasn't as tight as it used to be.

But we had been in love for a decade. I trusted him.

I shook my head. "He’s just too busy with the pack's expansion. He hasn't had time to plan the ceremony."

As soon as the words left my mouth, another dancer pushed the door open to enter the booth opposite us.

From my angle, I had a perfect view of the scene inside.

A man and a woman were tangled together.

Just looking at them, you could feel the exploding lust and primal attraction.

If it were anyone else, I would have thought they had just found their fated mate.

But the man’s back looked exactly like my Alpha boyfriend who was supposedly "busy with pack business."

I froze.

One of the dancers noticed my reaction and laughed.

"Miss, do you have your eye on Alpha Lucas? I suggest you give up early. Alpha Lucas is very disciplined. Aside from bringing Miss Sienna here often, he keeps his distance from all other women."

Lucas was always so busy with work that he even sent his Beta assistant, Ben, to handle things when I got into a car accident.

How could he possibly have time to bring a woman to a human club for fun?

I still held onto a shred of hope.

Maybe it was just someone with a similar build and scent.

But I wasn’t the type to run from the truth. I pulled out my phone and called Lucas.

The phone of the man in the opposite booth started ringing.

He didn't even look at it. He just declined the call, tapped a few words on the screen, and then urgently pulled the girl back into a kiss.

His hand slid under her shirt. The way he was controlled by desire made my face burn.

I looked down at the message I just received: "In a meeting with the Elders."

My face went pale.

Every time he hung up on me before, was he also busy rolling around with another she-wolf?

When Chloe found out, she bared her fangs in rage.

"Lucas dared to betray you? I’m going to go over there and tear that cheating couple apart!"

I stopped her.

Lucas used to be my most important family. He was the mate I had chosen.

No matter what the truth was, I didn't want to cause a scene in this neutral territory.

My mind was a mess. I didn't even know how I got home.

That night, the "extremely busy" Lucas rarely came back to our apartment.

I had looked at his face for my entire life, but now, it felt completely unfamiliar.

"Lucas, can we talk?" I asked from the sofa.

"Sorry, I have to go back to patrol the territory tonight."

Lucas walked over apologetically and bent down to kiss my forehead.

But as he got close, the sickly sweet scent of another female hit me. The strange pheromones made my stomach churn.

I turned my head to dodge his kiss and asked, "How did your lip get split?"

Lucas froze, a flash of panic in his eyes. "A tree branch scratched it during patrol."

We met in the orphan shelter. As strays without a pack, it wasn't easy to get where we are today.

Everything he has now, his status, was built with my help.

Unless I had no choice, I didn't want to hand over my life to someone else... it would be a disservice to all my past struggles.

"Lucas, do you remember our promise before the Moon Goddess? That we would never lie to each other?"

Wolves aren't saints. Everyone makes mistakes.

We had known each other for nearly thirty years and been in love for ten.

If he was just momentarily blinded by instinct, I was willing to give him one chance.
