Betrayed by My Alpha Boyfriend Chapter 6
Before I could speak, Arthur wasn't having it. A warning growl rumbled in his chest.
"Lucas, watch your mouth! Miss Ayla isn't 'easy' like you and that Sienna girl! Besides, you’re an ex-boyfriend who got dumped. Why do you care so much?"
I pretended not to see the sorrow in Lucas's eyes and spoke calmly. "Mr. Lucas, we have broken up. Please don't come looking for me in the future. I don't want Miss Sienna to misunderstand."
With that, I didn't look back. I got into the car.
From the moment he chose to betray our bond, we were destined to never be at peace.
Arthur slammed on the gas, and Lucas's figure quickly disappeared.
Because he drove too fast, we got pulled over by a patrol officer as soon as we left the block.
For the first time in my life, I was scolded in public. I was too embarrassed to lift my head. The sadness that had just gathered in my heart vanished instantly.
Arthur felt bad, so he transferred a huge sum of money to me as "emotional damage compensation," which made it hard for me to be mad at him.
...
After I processed my onboarding, I was busy for months helping the Blood Moon Pack manage their industries.
I heard rumors that Lucas went public with his new girlfriend and that his company's IPO had major issues. I didn't have time to listen to the details, let alone feel sad.
Originally, I worried that my strong personality would annoy Arthur, just like Lucas used to blame me for undermining his authority.
But Arthur only cared about cooking for me, buying me clothes, blocking drinks for me at parties, and arranging hotels for business trips...
He shamelessly acted as my personal assistant, only caring about my well-being.
People warned him—
"Ayla is scheming. Be careful she doesn't sell you out! Didn't you see she made too many moves in Lucas's pack and got kicked out?"
"Now Ayla's word is law in your company. Alpha Arthur better watch out, or soon her words will carry more weight than yours. She's the real Alpha!"
Before, Lucas listened to this kind of gossip too much, creating a wedge between us.
I hadn't known Arthur that long. I was worried about his reaction to these words and planned to have a serious talk with him.
But before I could find him, news spread that he fired a senior executive and cut ties with two friends who were spreading rumors.
Arthur even came to complain to me, full of grievances. "Those people have no good intentions! I finally found a brilliant manager so I can relax and be a hands-off boss, and they try to drive a wedge between us!"
He came to a conclusion—
"They just covet you. They want me to fire you so they can poach you!"
Arthur was terrified I would quit. Even though I promised him repeatedly, he didn't sleep well for a week. There were dark circles under his golden eyes.
He usually grinned like an idiot. Seeing him so gloomy, I wasn't used to it.
I gave him an idea. "I cashed out all the shares I got from Lucas. How about I invest all that money into your company? If I become a shareholder, you don't have to worry about me leaving!"
I didn't know if this silly wolf was just lucky or what.
His personal business skills weren't great, but the pack members under him were incredibly capable.
I heard that several company executives were people he had pestered until they agreed to join.
Arthur thought my proposal was viable. He immediately had the legal department prepare a contract and made me sign it on the spot, afraid I would change my mind.
But why would I back out of a win-win situation?
...
I worked non-stop for almost six months. It wasn't until the Christmas holidays that I heard about Lucas's situation from Chloe.
He had a conflict with a senior executive at his company. The executive was forced to resign and, in anger, exposed Lucas's cheating scandal with Sienna. He also reported the company to the regulators for tax fraud.
On the eve of the IPO, two scandals hit. The listing failed, and the Silver Lake Pack took a massive hit.
Lucas and Sienna broke up, and it was ugly.
She went around crying to everyone that he was still hung up on his former Luna and kept harassing her.
Chloe sighed. "Without you, Lucas really has had bad luck. It's like the Moon Goddess abandoned him!"
I just smiled.
The person whose single glance used to control my emotions could no longer cause a ripple in my heart.
Earlier, Lucas had called me. I answered, and he just awkwardly told me to take care of my health. He probably wanted to ask me for help solving the scandals but was too ashamed to say it.
On Christmas Eve, Nana Mary, the director of our old orphanage, invited me back for a visit.
Arthur insisted on coming along. I was used to having him around, so I agreed.
He seemed to have a little crush on me, and I didn't find it repulsive.
He was sincere and direct, providing plenty of emotional value. Being with him, I didn't feel insecure. I felt relaxed and happy.
Compared to when I was a child, the orphanage conditions were much better.
With the holiday approaching, the little pups were cheerful. Because Lucas and I had donated to the orphanage over the years, Nana Mary had the children prepare a thank-you dinner.
This was the first time I had seen Lucas in six months.
He was still in a suit, handsome and gentle, but he looked much thinner. His Alpha aura was weaker.
Nana Mary deliberately arranged for Lucas and me to sit together. She smiled and asked, "You two aren't getting any younger. When is the Mating Ceremony?"
