Lucas sighed and pulled me into a hug.

"Of course I wouldn't lie. Ayla, I’ve just been so busy with the company IPO and the territory expansion. Don't let your imagination run wild. Once the dust settles, we’ll hold the official ceremony, and you’ll become the true Luna."

I had waited years for him to say those words.

Now that I finally heard them, I only felt sadness.

He... still wouldn't tell me the truth.

Seeing my reaction, a look of distress crossed Lucas's brows.

He hesitated, then spoke with a gentle helplessness. "Alright, don't be upset. I won't go on patrol tonight. I'll stay with you, okay?"

"Okay. I'll ask Martha to prepare dinner," I said, forcing a smile.

"Good."

I thought that during dinner, I would have a proper talk with Lucas.

If he didn't love me anymore, or if he had met his true fated mate, we could just break up. There was no need to lie.

As long as I got my fair share of the assets, I would walk away.

But just as the steak was served, Lucas took a phone call and changed his mind.

"Sorry, Ayla. There's an emergency in the territory. I can't stay for dinner!"

He grabbed his suit jacket and left, his face full of urgency.

I looked at the table full of food and completely lost my appetite.

Lucas, oh Lucas. Do you think I’m some human fool without a sense of smell?

I wanted to break up with some dignity, but he wouldn't even give me the chance.

We were standing close enough that with my hearing, I clearly heard a girl crying softly on the other end of the line.

After he left, I went into the study and opened his computer.

He was very cautious. There were no traces in his usual messaging apps.

But the chat history with "Sienna" had been deleted a little too cleanly.

Lately, Lucas couldn't say three sentences without mentioning an intern named "Tim." Every time he brought him up, he was smiling.

I thought Lucas was good at hiding his affair. Turns out, I was the only one kept in the dark.

I suppressed my nausea and kept scrolling.

Until I saw one specific post, and I snapped.

Feeling down, so Boss gave me the day off and took me to the amusement park! Don't be too jealous, guys!

Attached was a photo of Lucas laughing while holding the girl. And the girl... looked exactly like a younger version of me.

This was posted last Thanksgiving.

That was the day my car flipped over. I had called Lucas in a panic, terrified.

He had said, "I have an important meeting with the Elders, I really can't get away. Beta Ben will be there soon!"

I believed him.

But at that moment, he was at an amusement park accompanying his little mistress.

In the end, it was a client named Arthur who happened to pass by and helped me handle everything with the police and the hospital.

Tears rolled in my eyes before finally falling.

I forced myself to get up. I threw all my belongings out of the house, only keeping my computer and a few clothes.
