Betrayed by My Alpha Boyfriend Chapter 5
Hearing my words, Lucas froze. He looked exactly like a puppy abandoned by its owner.
He stared at me, as if he couldn't believe I could say something so heartless.
I repeated myself. "Seeing you reminds me that you are a liar who broke your oath... It makes me feel sick."
Lucas forced a very stiff smile. "We’ve been together so many years, Ayla. Can't you give me one chance?"
I said, "When I was in that car accident and you couldn't come because you were at an amusement park with Sienna... did you think about our years of history then?"
Actually, I knew his attempt to keep me was sincere.
It wasn't that he didn't love me. It was just that seeing me reminded him of our struggle at the bottom, and the whispers that he wasn't as good as me.
So he chose to avoid me, finding a mistress who looked like me but was easier to control, to satisfy his Alpha vanity.
Because we grew up together, I understood him better than anyone. And because of that, his betrayal was harder to accept.
"Lucas, a wolf can't have everything. That’s too greedy. Let’s part on good terms. Leave me with some good memories. Don't make me think of you later and only feel disgust."
Lucas seemed truly hurt this time. After he left, he didn't come back. He just had his lawyer transfer the assets to me.
I held 25% of the company shares. Originally, his plan was to wait for the IPO, where the shares would be worth much more.
But I wasn't willing.
To be honest, his vision was limited. He cared too much about personal gains and losses.
His pride forcing me to resign... that was just one of many ridiculous things.
He wasn't particularly suited to be a leader Alpha.
Otherwise, my prestige in the pack wouldn't have surpassed his.
I didn't want my financial future tied to him.
Lucas was efficient. He quickly liquidated the shares and wired me the cash.
Along with the money, he sent a message.
Even if we aren't mates, I will always be your family. You can come to me for anything. Also, Arthur isn't good enough for you. You don't need to date a big idiot just to get revenge on me.
When I was his mate, he didn't even show up for my car accident. I certainly wouldn't count on him in the future!
And he cheated with Sienna but couldn't let me go? Did he assume I couldn't let him go either?
I found it funny. I deleted his contact info and chatted with a few headhunters who wanted to poach me.
Seeing that I was in contact with other packs, Arthur went into overdrive trying to sabotage them.
"The Alpha of that new tech company is an old lecher. He doesn't spare any of his beautiful employees. You're so gorgeous, going there would be walking into a tiger's den!"
"The Dark Night Pack is no good either. Too stingy. Go ask around. That old wolf forces people to quit so he doesn't have to pay severance!"
"That other guy is no good either..."
Arthur himself was a third-generation rich kid with a top-tier bloodline. Aside from networking, he didn't care much for business, only holding the title of Chairman.
He didn't work. During my recovery, he guarded me every day, listing the benefits of joining his pack.
To get me to join his team, he cleaned my house, cooked meals, and made snacks.
I have to say, for a top-tier Alpha, his cooking was better than a professional chef's.
Especially his barbecue skills—he grabbed this werewolf’s stomach!
Arthur also moonlighted as a playmate.
Whether I wanted to play video games or poker, he was there. He even managed to let me win without making it obvious. Chloe was so entertained she was constantly grinning.
Whether I talked to Chloe about gossip, fashion, beauty, or travel, he could hold a conversation.
If Chloe or I showed interest in any food or activity, Arthur would have it in front of us within a day.
I had to admit, he successfully moved me.
The day I finally said yes, Arthur immediately arranged for lawyers to come over. He practically forced me to sign the contract at 11 PM that night.
...
"Alpha Arthur, isn't this recruitment a bit too intense? People don't try this hard chasing their fated mates!" I teased casually.
Arthur smiled until his eyes formed crescents. His golden eyes were full of gentleness. "That’s just because that scum Lucas didn't like you enough. Naturally, he didn't try hard enough. Otherwise, how could he cheat? For a goddess as smart, beautiful, and kind as you, chasing you should mean plucking the moon from the sky!"
He wasn't just guarding against other companies; he was blocking Lucas from getting back together with me.
He was terrified I’d choose to be a housewife for my ex.
In that month, I lost count of how much trash he talked about Lucas. It made me want to laugh and cry.
I looked at the time. "It's getting late."
He should leave.
Arthur: "There's a sofa in the living room. I can crash there. I have wolf fur, I'm not afraid of the cold. Tomorrow morning, I'll drive you to work!"
If any other man was this eager, I would be suspicious.
But he was dead set on getting me to work for his company, and he had been very respectful. I actually felt quite safe with him.
"There's a guest room. Alpha Arthur doesn't need to sleep on the sofa."
The next morning, I washed up, put on makeup, ate breakfast, and left the house with Arthur.
But as soon as we reached the apartment building entrance, we ran into Lucas.
He looked at me standing side-by-side with Arthur, smelled our mixed scents, and his expression twisted. "Ayla, you let him stay the night?"
