Lucas's eyes lit up slightly, and the corners of his lips curved.

But I beat him to it. "Nana Mary, we broke up six months ago because we weren't a match."

The light in Lucas’s eyes instantly went out.

He was the one who cheated. I didn't know who he was performing this victim act for.

Arthur, on the other hand, had been pouting, but now he started grinning again.

"Ayla, switch seats with the little girl next to me. Don't sit next to your ex, it's awkward! The air over there smells bad."

Lucas looked like he wanted to say something, but I pretended not to see him and swapped seats.

During the meal, I drank too much water and went to the restroom.

Lucas blocked me in the hallway.

He looked down at me, his eyes deep with emotion just like when we first started dating. He even released a bit of courting pheromones.

"Ayla, after we broke up, I realized I can't live without you."

"I can't sleep at night. I miss how small you were when I held your hand as kids. I miss the times when we first started building the territory, how you worried about my health and made me bone broth... and..."

I raised my hand to interrupt him. "We are finished!"

Lucas got emotional. "We can start over! You gave Arthur a chance to pursue you, why can't you give me another chance?"

I looked up at him. "Because there is no trust between us anymore. I don't want to live my life in suspicion!"

If I was with him, and he said he was busy with the pack, I would wonder if he was lying.

If he didn't come home, I would wonder if he was holding another female.

Suspicion and jealousy would turn me into a monster. A man who betrays his mate isn't worth me losing myself.

"Lucas, let's leave each other some dignity. Take care of yourself."

Arthur was standing nearby, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. He didn't come over to disturb us. When he saw me look over, he just curved his golden eyes and waved at me.

I couldn't help but smile. I walked towards him and took his hand.

The silly wolf blushed all the way to his neck. Even the tips of his ears turned red. He started walking with the same arm and leg moving at the same time.

I pursed my lips but couldn't hold it in. I laughed out loud.

"Alpha Arthur is twenty-eight years old. How can you be so innocent?"

Arthur muttered sourly, "It's my first time marking a mate. Unlike some people who spent ten years on one relationship."

As he spoke, he pulled out a massive diamond ring from somewhere and slid it directly onto my middle finger. It was clearly premeditated.

"The official proposal will come later. You touched my hand, so you have to take responsibility! I'm not casual like Lucas. I've decided you are my Luna!"

I lifted my hand to look at the blinding diamond and sighed. "A ring this big? You've practically bought the rest of my life."

Arthur stopped being sour. He beamed, ignoring the crowd, and picked me up to spin me around, letting out a happy growl.

The little pups didn't know what was happening, but they laughed along with him.

Lucas stood lonely outside the crowd, looking like a lone wolf exiled from the pack. I didn't even notice when he left.

A year later, Arthur and I got married. I was pregnant.

His family was a top-tier werewolf dynasty. I was worried his parents would look down on an orphan like me.

But his mother, an elegant old Luna, laughed until her mouth wouldn't close. "We have just this one silly son. Our biggest wish was for him to find a smart, capable wife to take over this massive family business! This brat has dumb luck; he actually found one!"

She had a sweet tongue. I almost floated away with her compliments.

Now I knew where Arthur got his emotional intelligence from.

His father, the old Wolf King, was a man of few words but many assets. He directly gifted us the deed to a castle, thanking me for taking his son off their hands.

At the wedding, Lucas sent a heavy gift. He got drunk and had to be sent home by Arthur's men.

After that, Lucas didn't bother me again. But the girlfriends by his side changed one after another. Different personalities, but their eyes and brows always looked exactly like mine.

I felt grossed out, and I was afraid Arthur would be upset.

But he just hugged me and our two golden-eyed pups, smiling. "Lucas can't let go, which just proves you are good enough. Why would I be mad? I'm too busy being happy that I found such a treasure! Anyway, you are my Mate. No one can take you away."

Hearing this, I laughed too.

Being with him, I learned that true mate-love never brings pain.

If loving someone makes you sad, that relationship should end.
