Deadly Silence (complete) Chapter 111

6 min 2 views

Gabriel’s text came as Sebastian finished the conversation with the Demoine couple. They’d been happy to hear him out, vowing to do everything in their power to teach their daughter how to be a decent human being — at least towards Vivian.

Part of him hoped the parents had been in on the bullying if only so he could take some of his anger out on them; as things stood, he was stuck without an outlet.

Until now.

“We aren’t expecting anyone,” Mr Demoine assured Sebastian, voice pitched high as the man’s eyes never moved from the gun that’d been pointed at them since they’d been force to wake up. “And we haven’t contacted anyone either. Who would we? Mr Devreaux is the only one I would trust to ask for help.”

*And you can’t call him about this, since he’s the reason we’re here*, Sebastian added in his head as he looked away from the couple towards the bedroom door. “Piss anyone else off lately?”

“N-No, sir,” the man assured Sebastian. “I swear I have no idea who those people could be or why they’re here.”

“Too bad,” Sebastian muttered as he moved towards the door. “Find somewhere to hide.” He didn’t bother looking back as he heard the couple scramble out of bed. Opening the door as quietly as he could, he peaked into the hall before closing it again.

There was no way for him to know where the intruders were in the home as Gabriel was the one with access to the live feed from the cameras. As much as he wanted to walk out and meet them head on, doing so would be suicidal.

Instead he stood next to the door with his back against the wall and waited.

Another text told him the group had split up, which was understandable though not in the way they’d done it. Why three groups? There were only two occupied rooms in the home as far as he was aware. The housekeepers went home at night and security was only located outside the building; it was why sneaking in had been so easy.

Knowing his brother wouldn’t message again until everything was dealt with, Sebastian put away the phone and forced his body to relax.

The minutes slowly ticked by as he waited. At one point he was certain he could hear the faint sound of shots being fired, but the house was so big it was difficult for sound to travel from one end to the other.

As he debated changing his strategy and jumping in headfirst, the door knob rattled and began to turn oh-so-slowly.

Raising his gun to shoulder height, he waited as the door cracked open. Another second passed before it was opened further and someone stepped into the room, their eyes fixed ahead.

Sebastian pressed the barrel of his gun to the person’s head, just above their ear, and said in a low voice, “Drop the gun.”

The person froze in place, no daring to move, but the one bringing up the rear had no such issue. Catching the flicker of movement, Sebastian pulled the trigger before taking three steps back, a hail of bullets piercing through the wall where he’d just been standing.

A growl came from the person still on the other side of the door as they realized their partner was no longer among the living, half their head now missing. “You won’t get away with this,” the voice snarled.

Sebastian didn’t bother responding, choosing instead to crouch down and wait some more. Since he wasn’t moving it meant silence fell on them again. Whoever was out there, if they were any good, would be listening for movement in order to know where the target was located. No movement, no noise, no way of figuring it out.

As he waited, Sebastian kept his eyes glued on the door, gun at the height of the average person’s knee.

The person on the other side of the door peeked in for a split second before retreating, as though expecting to be shot at.

Sebastian could almost hear their frustration as there were a few seconds pause before they peeked in again, this time for half a second before retreating. Since it was dark — no lights had been turned on for the conversation he’d had with the Demoines — and he was crouched a couple feet below a person’s line of a sight he was easy to miss.

Whoever was out there was probably wondering where he could have gone. There were no hiding spots in the bedroom and he’d have made noise if he’d gone to the closet or into another, adjoining room.

*Paranoid little fucker, aren’t you? Come on then. Come find me.*

Finally the person took a step into the room, then another, gun raised as they swept the room only for Sebastian to take out both their knees with consecutive shots. Well, it took three instead of the two he’d been wanting, but he couldn’t really argue with the outcome.

Pushing himself back to his full height, Sebastian kicked the gun the intruder had dropped, sending it skittering a few feet away where it couldn’t be reached. A glance into the hall showed it was clear, but that could change at any time.

“Who the fuck are you?” The man — it was a man’s voice, anyway — with shattered knees demanded.  His voice was laced with pain but he didn’t cry out, making Sebastian grudgingly respect him just a bit.

“That’s what I want to know,” he retorted as he stood over the man. “Who are you and why are you here?”

“Fuck you.”

“Hm.” Crouching next to the man, Sebastian went through the stranger’s pockets, patting him down until he was sure all hidden weapons had been found and discarded. “You came prepared. Don’t worry. You’ll live,” Sebastian assured him, zip ties in hand as he set to work. Not only were they useful for keeping people tied up, but they also doubled as tourniquets when needed. “And once we take care of your buddies I’ll be back to get some answers to those questions so try not to bleed out.”

Giving the man’s knee a quick pat to earn a cry of pain, Sebastian zip tied his hands behind his back before standing up again.

There wasn’t anything else to do in the bedroom so Sebastian crept into the hall, gun at the ready as he slowly made his way to the stairs. A quick glance over the railing showed no one below, but now that he was in a more open space he could hear the sound of things breaking in another room. Seemed Gabriel was having some fun of his own.

There were two groups left and one had to be busy with his brother, leaving that last one to worry about. Would it be the duo or single? Only one way to find out. Sebastian took the stairs, keeping his steps to the outer edges so they wouldn’t make any noise to warn someone he was coming.

A cry of pain reached his ears and Sebastian paused. That sounded familiar. A roar of pain and anger followed next and now he knew without a doubt Gabriel hadn’t been able to deal with the intruders as effectively as Sebastian.

*If they managed more than a flesh wound on him I’ll kill them where they stand.*
