Devon

I was just pulling into the grocery store parking lot when I spotted her. Evelyn crumpled against a car, her face contorted in pain. Even from a distance, I could see the telltale black lines spreading up her arm – silver poisoning.

Without hesitation, I slammed on the brakes and rushed to her side. The scent hit me immediately – the acrid smell of silver burning through werewolf flesh. But there was something else, something unexpected. As I knelt beside her, I could sense her dormant wolf nature struggling to awaken under the silver's assault.

"Hang on, Evelyn," I said, carefully lifting her into my arms. Her skin felt feverish against mine, her breathing shallow and labored.

The moment I touched her, she whimpered in pain. The black veins on her arm seemed to pulse more violently. It seemed like my presence was intensifying her reaction to the silver.

I carried her swiftly to my car, laying her across the back seat with as much gentleness as the urgency would allow. Her silver-gray eyes fluttered open for just a moment, confusion and pain clouding their usual clarity.

"Don't... touch me..." she whispered weakly before her eyes rolled back.

I jumped into the driver's seat and immediately made a call to our medical center.

"Prepare the werewolf treatment room," I ordered, not bothering with pleasantries. "Severe silver burn, spreading rapidly. And get Dr. Michaels in there right now."

The voice on the other end hesitated. "But sir, he is—"

"I don't care," I cut them off. "Have everything ready."

I ended that call and immediately dialed Jason.

"Go to the grocery store near Moon Bay Apartments. Check their security footage for the last hour. I want to know exactly what happened to Evelyn," I instructed, my voice tight with controlled fury. "She's been attacked with silver."

As I drove, I kept checking on Evelyn through the rearview mirror.

"This reaction is too severe," I muttered to myself, pressing harder on the accelerator. Her suppressed wolf nature was fighting back violently against years of repression, triggered by the silver. It was like watching a dam about to break – dangerous, unpredictable, and potentially fatal.

Ten minutes later, I carried Evelyn's limp form through the private entrance of the Silver Moon Medical Center. The staff's eyes widened as they saw me, their Alpha, personally carrying an injured woman.

"Treatment room, now!" I barked, following the nurses who rushed ahead to prepare.

Inside the sterile room, Dr. Michaels was already waiting, his face grave as he assessed Evelyn's condition.

"The silver has penetrated deep," he said, cutting away her sleeve to reveal the full extent of the damage. "Standard treatment won't be enough."

I nodded sharply. "Use the new formula."

A nurse approached timidly. "Sir, perhaps you should wait outside while we—"

"I'm staying," I said, my tone leaving no room for argument. I moved to the side of the bed, watching as Dr. Michaels prepared the experimental anti-toxin.

"I'll assist," I added, rolling up my sleeves. The medical staff exchanged surprised glances but knew better than to question me further.

For the next hour, we worked to extract the silver toxin from Evelyn's system. The procedure was delicate and painful – I could see her unconscious form flinching as the extraction progressed.

Dr. Michaels worked methodically, but his expression grew increasingly puzzled. "Her body chemistry is... unusual," he observed. "The wolf nature is deeply suppressed, yet her blood purity is extraordinarily high. I've never seen such a contradiction."

I looked down at Evelyn's pale face. "Three years of suppression has nearly destroyed her true nature," I said quietly. "But her bloodline is too powerful to be completely eliminated."

As the procedure neared completion, I stepped outside to find Jason waiting, tablet in hand.

"I have the security footage," he said, handing me the device. "It shows everything."

I watched the video with growing anger. Jessica grabbing Evelyn, the silver ring making contact, the malicious satisfaction on Jessica's face as Evelyn recoiled in pain.

"According to other students I questioned, Kate Gray has been feeding Jessica negative information about Evelyn for weeks," Jason reported. "Calling her 'promiscuous' and claiming she tries to seduce men."

My jaw tightened. "Keep a close eye on Kate Gray. Gather all the evidence. As for Jessica..." I handed back the tablet, my voice dropping to a dangerous growl, "she will pay for this."

Jason nodded and left just as Dr. Michaels emerged from the treatment room.

"She's stable," he announced. "The toxin has been neutralized. She'll need rest, but she should make a full recovery."

I thanked him and returned to Evelyn's side, settling into a chair beside her bed. The room was dimly lit, the air filled with the antiseptic smell of the medical center – and underneath it all, the faint scent of pine and wild that always seemed to surround me.

Hours passed before Evelyn finally stirred. Her eyelids fluttered open, confusion evident in her silver-gray eyes as she took in the unfamiliar surroundings. When her gaze landed on me, she stiffened.

"Mr. Hall?" Her voice was hoarse, barely above a whisper.

I leaned forward slightly. "You're safe, Evelyn. The silver poison has been removed, but you need to rest."

She tried to sit up, then winced, noticing the bandage wrapped around her arm. She looked down at herself, registering the hospital gown and special silver-resistant bandages.

"You're going to be fine," I assured her, my voice gentler than I'd intended.

Evelyn's eyes narrowed with suspicion. "How did you... why were you there?"

"I was coming to give you the keys to the apartment when I happened to pass by the grocery store," I explained, my voice dropping to a dangerous timbre. "I saw you collapse in the parking lot."

Before I could continue, the door burst open, and Lily rushed in, her eyes red and puffy.

"Evelyn! Uncle Devon called and said you were hurt!" she cried, hurrying to the bedside.

I stood up, making room for her. "I thought you might need someone to look after you, so I called Lily."

Lily grabbed Evelyn's hand, her face a picture of concern. "Are you okay? I can't believe Jessica would do something like this to you!"

Evelyn managed a weak smile. "Hey, Lily... don't worry, I'm fine..."

"You're not fine," Lily said, sniffling as she clutched Evelyn's hand. "I had no idea Jessica would go this far... I'm so sorry."

"That's enough, Lily," I said gently. "Evelyn needs to rest. This matter will be dealt with."

Lily nodded, wiping tears from her eyes. "I have to go to my club meeting this afternoon, but I'll come back right after, okay?"

After a few more reassurances, Lily reluctantly left, leaving Evelyn and me alone once again.

The room fell into silence, the soft beeping of the monitoring equipment the only sound between us.
