Rise of the Banished She-Wolf Chapter 31
Evelyn
I heard the knock on my door at exactly 7 AM. Taking a deep breath, I grabbed my packed overnight bag and opened the door to find Devon and Lily waiting in the hallway. Jason stood a few feet behind them, positioned near the elevator like a silent guardian.
"Eve! Ready for our little getaway?" Lily beamed, bouncing on her toes with excitement. Her energy felt almost contagious, but my own anxiety kept it at bay.
"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, eyeing my bag uncertainly. "Are you sure this place is actually good for healing wolves?"
Devon nodded, his blue eyes briefly flashing gold. "Moon Valley has been my pack's sacred ground for generations. It's specifically designed for situations like yours—a safe haven for healing and transformation."
I stepped into the hallway, pulling the door closed behind me. "Why take me there? Isn't it supposed to be your family's secret territory?"
"Because you're my friend, silly!" Lily hooked her arm through mine, giving it a gentle squeeze. The sincerity in her voice caught me off guard, sending an unexpected wave of emotion through my chest. It had been so long since anyone had claimed me as a friend without ulterior motives.
Devon drove while Lily and I sat in the back of his specially reinforced SUV. As we left Seattle behind, tall buildings gave way to dense forests, and I could feel something stirring inside me—my wolf responding to the wilderness.
"The lake there is absolutely gorgeous," Lily gushed, filling the silence. "And there's this ancient forest with trees taller than skyscrapers. The cabins are rustic but super cozy, and—"
"Sounds nice," I cut in, trying to hide my discomfort. With the full moon approaching, my wolf was growing increasingly restless. I discreetly clutched the small vial of suppressant in my pocket, wondering if I'd need it tonight.
Devon's eyes found mine in the rearview mirror. "Trying to suppress your wolf nature right before the full moon is dangerous, Evelyn."
I stiffened. "How did you—"
"I can smell it," he replied simply. "The chemicals in the suppressant. They're toxic, especially so close to transformation time."
Lily looked between us curiously. "Eve, how long has it been since you've... you know?"
I stared out the window, watching the trees blur past. "I haven't successfully transformed in years," I admitted quietly. "Even three years ago, when... when it happened, I only managed a half-shift."
Lily's hand found mine, squeezing gently. The compassion in her touch almost hurt more than judgment would have.

When we finally arrived, the SUV turned onto a hidden dirt road flanked by ancient pines. A cluster of wooden cabins came into view, nestled around a glittering lake.
"We're here!" Lily announced, pointing excitedly.
The moment I stepped out of the car, I was hit by the concentrated scent of wolf—dozens of them, their presence embedded in the very soil. My body tensed instinctively, eyes scanning the perimeter.
"Moon Valley sits on a natural moonstone deposit," Devon explained, walking beside me. "It neutralizes silver damage and accelerates healing in our kind."
Several wolves emerged from the cabins, each nodding respectfully to Devon as we passed. Lily waved cheerfully at them.
"They seem really scared of your uncle," I whispered to Lily.
She laughed. "Not scared—respectful. He's the Alpha here!"
Devon led us toward the center of the compound, where a woman with silver-streaked hair waited. "This is Elder Sage, our healer. She'll help with your silver wound."
Sage approached, her weathered hands gentle as she examined my arm.
When Sage’s hand touched my wound, she paused slightly. She leaned in for a closer look, and her cloudy eyes suddenly sparkled with disbelief. Even her voice trembled as she said, “This… this is the bloodline of the White Wolf… Oh my god, I haven’t seen this in decades.”
Sage could actually sense my bloodline directly, which shocked me deeply. I realized I might be able to learn more about my wolf from her.
By the lake, three men were talking. When they saw us approaching, they stopped and nodded in greeting. The one in charge had a bright, friendly smile, while the other two looked more reserved and steady.
"And these are friends of mine—Jack, Lucas, and Eric," Devon introduced them briefly.
Lily immediately ran to Jack, greeting him with familiar enthusiasm. "Jack! You promised to teach me fishing last time!"
Jack smiled, ruffling her hair affectionately. "First thing tomorrow morning, I promise."
Devon moved closer to me. "They'll help maintain security during the full moon. You can trust them completely."

My assigned cabin sat beside a mountain spring, isolated from the others. "This is the best cabin!" Lily explained as Devon unlocked the door.
Stepping inside, I felt an immediate sense of calm wash over me. "This feels... strange," I murmured, surprised. "Like my wolf is... celebrating."
"Your wolf nature has been starved for too long," Devon said, satisfaction in his voice. "Tonight, when the moon rises, you can safely release her."
"Eve, I heard white wolves are super rare!" Lily piped up, curiosity brimming in her eyes.
I shifted uncomfortably. "I... have never fully transformed in so long, I'm not sure what I look like."
Devon gestured around the cabin. "The design ensures you won't harm anyone or be disturbed from outside. Everything here is built to contain and comfort a transforming wolf."
Later, after Lily was called away to help with dinner preparations, Devon invited me to walk with him by the lake. The setting sun cast long shadows across the water as he finally spoke the words I'd been dreading.
"I was there three years ago, when the Grey family exiled you," he admitted, his voice low. "I had just become Alpha, without enough influence to intervene."
I stared at him, shock rippling through me. "So all this—the apartment, the lawyer, this place—it's because you feel guilty?"
Devon shook his head, his eyes glowing gold in the fading light. "It’s not just about guilt. The White Wolf means the world to us, and you’re from the Moonheal pack too. Your existence matters to all of us. And..." He hesitated for a moment, his gaze locking onto hers, "I’ve been drawn to you from the very first time I saw you."
I didn't know how to respond, so I turned to face the still waters of the lake, my silver-gray eyes reflecting the sunset's glow.
Back at the cabin, Sage and Lily waited with preparations for the coming night. Lily had brought my favorite music, along with fruit and jerky. "You'll be hungry after shifting," she explained.
"Don't resist the change," Sage advised, her voice gentle but firm. "Let your wolf nature flow naturally. That's the only way your wound will truly heal."
"What if I can't control myself?" I asked, fear creeping into my voice. "What if I hurt someone..."
"Don't worry," Lily reassured me. "This place is safe. Uncle Devon will be right outside—he's the strongest Alpha."
Outside the window, the moon began to rise. I felt my wolf stirring, awakening from her long slumber. My eyes flickered with golden light as the inevitable approached.
