The Frozen Apocalypse: Betrayal and Rebirth Chapter 5
Derek's time to shine had arrived. He rolled up his sleeves and started organizing luggage.
Lily laughed from the side: "Uncle Derek, you're so refined! You even do housework! My dad never washes his face at home!"
"The princess dress you gave me is so beautiful. All my classmates were envious!"
Derek patted her head. "Girls should be raised lavishly, not like my son Tyler—he's just a stinky boy!"
Rebecca's mother and Rebecca exchanged satisfied smiles.
Watching them get along so happily, I sneered coldly.
The little match girl's visions before death were just physiological hallucinations.
Having frozen to death once, I knew.
Before I died, I'd recalled Lily from a tiny bundle of flesh to a tall little girl. I'd been attentive to everything. My mother-in-law had already raised Rebecca's older brother's two kids. When she came to our house, she slacked off whenever possible.
She said she couldn't handle two alone. Since Rebecca earned more, she'd complain of headaches and body aches, forcing me to quit my job, saying it was fashionable now for dads to raise kids!
How did she become so selfish and vicious?
And things with Emma had started off well—they were affectionate at first.
Now watching Rebecca and her mother, I understood. Besides genetic disposition, there was definitely their instigation behind it.
"Dad." Emma hugged me. "Dad, don't cry. Actually, I wanted to tell you long ago—you and Mom should divorce. I'll stay with you. Once I saw Mom and Uncle Derek hugging. I was afraid of hurting you, so I didn't tell you!"
I rubbed my eyes and touched her face. "Dad's not crying. Emma's growing up. Don't worry, Dad's a man!"
I thought to myself: Dad probably won't divorce. Dad's waiting to be widowed.
We finished organizing and ate simple noodles. Watching the surveillance as Derek cooked a whole table of dishes...
Lily ate greedily: "Uncle Derek, men who cook are the most handsome! Your braised pork is so delicious, not like my dad always making me eat vegetables!"
Remembering Lily's pickiness, how I'd patiently urged her to eat vegetables for balanced nutrition, making vegetables in various styles just so she'd eat a few more bites.
Never mind. Not worth mentioning. You can never feed a wolf enough.
Eat up, eat up. I mercifully left a refrigerator full of ingredients. Make sure to restock when it's gone.
The weather service issued a cold front warning.
I saw comments on various forums:
"Damn, this weather is like a roller coaster—one moment minus teens, next moment zero, now forecasting heavy snow with minus twenties."
"A bit bizarre. Working people have endless worries!"
"The North has heating—what's to fear?"
"Send some snow south! In Guangzhou, never seen snow!!"
Thinking about the nationwide snowfall in two days, I posted anonymously:
"Weather's too cold. I hate cold and don't want to go out. Better buy lots of stuff and stay home."
Some people agreed with me in the comments.
That's all I could hint at. In the apocalypse, bleeding hearts die first! Prophets get killed by human nature next!
