The Frozen Apocalypse: Betrayal and Rebirth Chapter 7

2 min 91.2K views

That day while checking surveillance, Rebecca's face suddenly appeared close to the camera, startling me.

Her eyes were sunken, voice hoarse: "Michael Mitchell, is that you? Where the fuck are you?"

Turns out the camera was discovered when Lily and her best friend Tyler fought over a steamed bun.

She yanked the wire—screen went black. She started searching the house. I didn't respond.

But then she stopped.

The next day was still thin soup, plain cabbage, and steamed buns. After eating, Rebecca didn't go out to buy food as usual.

She knelt before another camera: "Honey, where are you? I was wrong. I broke it off with Derek, okay? Come back. We're so cold, so hungry. Can't grab food outside anymore—everything's completely closed!!"

In my previous life, without leaving home, I'd stockpiled some groceries based on weather forecasts. Later, because I had lots of grocery shopping groups from years of buying, I'd stockpiled more when snow first started, supporting seven of us for three months until power collapsed. That was only because they were wasteful.

I still didn't respond. She flew into a rage, pulling Lily over and beating her hard.

"Cry! Cry! Make your dad come back. He definitely has food. During the COVID lockdown, he was always prepared."

Lily cried and trembled.

The memory of freezing to death in my previous life washed over me. I watched coldly without responding.

But her mother said viciously: "Michael Mitchell, if you don't come back, we'll throw Lily out to freeze to death. Save a mouth anyway."

Of course—they were a family thinking only of themselves. Tyler had his birth mother protecting him. Rebecca's mother and Rebecca only cared about themselves.

Lily was only ten after all—the only weak one whose rations could be cut.

Rebecca's eyes showed a flash of viciousness. Derek stood aside wrapped tightly in blankets, watching coldly.

This was her biological daughter, yet she was using her to threaten me now.

Watching Lily about to be pushed out the door, crying heartbreakingly...

I spoke: "Rebecca, that's your biological daughter. If you want her dead, I can't help!"

Lily cried harder, shouting: "Dad, Dad save me! They're all bullying me. I'm so hungry!! Waaah!!"

This was the child I'd cherished. Did she remember last time, it was me being cruelly thrown out?

"Bottom level of the bookshelf—there are two boxes with things inside. Only those two." I said coldly.
