The Godfather's Love Buried in Snow Chapter 7
A few days later, at a banquet, Dante watched me discussing European distribution channels naturally with Julian.
His hand tightened around his silver fork until his knuckles turned white.
It was the first time he felt such intense panic regarding me.
It was as if I didn't belong to his world anymore, and he was an outsider with no right to approach.
He barely touched his truffle steak.
After dinner, Julian mentioned the upcoming Arms Expo in Geneva. Dante suddenly interrupted, his tone forcedly familiar.
"Elena, I'll drive you back to the dorm after the expo? I know a great jazz bar nearby."
I looked up at him. My eyes were calm. "No need. Julian and I have business to discuss. You go ahead."
He paused, clutching his napkin, and finally left. His back looked unusually defeated.
Julian and I walked to the terrace. Suddenly, Bianca’s shrill voice came from behind us.
She was out on bail, pending her transfer to federal prison, and had somehow snuck in.
"Elena Ferrari! You're good at playing the victim. Hooking up with Julian using your family's connections... did you forget who saved you from the cartel crossfire?"
Remembering the kennel, I turned and sneered.
"The person who saved me? Do you mean the Dante who left me to die at the border? Or the Dante who watched a dog maul me and then carried you away?"
Bianca's face paled, but she doubled down.
"Dante came to Switzerland for you! Don't be ungrateful!"
"He came for the Rossi family channels. Not for me."
I couldn't be bothered to argue. I turned to leave.
A moment later, Dante walked over holding a cup of hot cocoa. Steam rose from it.
