The XYY Gene Chapter 10
Two days later, father and son brought Sarah home.
I clearly understood their plan. Once home, they'd let Sarah freeze, then go without food or water for days. Then they'd say she accidentally got fever and died. With a vegetable, police wouldn't investigate much.
I reported to the police in advance, submitted evidence, and knocked on their rental door.
Tyler opened the door. His appraising look made me very uncomfortable.
"Oh, it's Auntie."
He looked at me meaningfully. "Here to see my mom?"
I forced a smile and ignored him, walking straight into the living room.
Rather than a living room, it was a combined living space. Five of them lived together, very cramped.
They sat on either side of the sofa, flanking me like wolves eyeing prey.
As they drew closer, I pulled a bank card from my pocket and handed it to Marcus.
"There's still fifteen hundred dollars here. My practice's cash flow recently freed up."
I tried to appear calm. "As soon as I had money, I brought it to you."
Tyler stared at me intently. "Auntie, you have more money, don't you? You're lying! You're deceiving us! Why won't you take out your money!"
"Sis." Marcus sighed. "You know Tyler's girlfriend is pregnant, your sister-in-law has no money for treatment, and I still owe a lot outside."
As he spoke, they exchanged glances, stood up, and slowly approached me, eyes fierce.
"What are you doing?" I asked warily.
Marcus looked at me greedily. "I really have no choice. You're the only one in the family with money. Once you're dead, all your money will be mine."
They grabbed me and pushed toward the window.
My head spun as if returning to my previous life's near-death moment. Sarah had used this same method, pushing me from the building when I wasn't prepared.
Sharp, broken nails protruded from the old window. Under their violent pushing, my arms were soon covered with mottled blood.
Just as my entire body was about to go out the window, a loud crash—police burst through the door and restrained them.
I was grateful that in this life, I only suffered minor injuries.
This justice finally came.
