The XYY Gene Chapter 2

3 min 12K views

Marcus and my mother were hesitant, but with Sarah's insistence, they chose to have the child.

My mother looked at her chubby grandson, who appeared completely normal, beaming with joy. "Look at my grandson—he's perfectly fine! All that talk about born criminals and bad tempers was just nonsense! As long as we raise him well, he'll be just like a normal kid."

Sarah also breathed a sigh of relief. She had finally given birth to a boy. If she'd aborted this one, my mother would have immediately made Marcus remarry.

At first, the child showed no abnormalities. But once Tyler Morrison started school, they were constantly called in—always because Tyler was bullying other students.

He was only in middle school but had already transferred to more than ten schools. If he got expelled again, he'd have nowhere left to go.

"Do you know how many people we had to beg to get you into this school?"

"You knew Claire was allergic to mangoes—why did you put mango juice in her food?"

"Do you know how much money we had to pay her family?"

Looking at Tyler's defiant, indifferent expression, Marcus trembled with rage, his hand rising to slap Tyler's face.

My mother immediately stepped forward to protect her precious grandson, glaring at him. "Tyler's still young—he just doesn't understand! Why are you hitting him?"

Sarah was crying on the side. Marcus's head was pounding. He pointed at her and yelled, "I said we should abort this child! You insisted on keeping him! Are you happy now?"

After multiple abortions, her health had deteriorated over the years. She looked pale and weak, and his words made her face turn ashen. She sobbed, "Don't you have responsibility for educating our child? You're out all day—who knows what women you're with! Have you ever taken care of him?"

Then she spotted me coming home from work and looked at me hopefully. "Isn't your sister a psychologist? Let her counsel Tyler, and he'll become like a normal kid."

"Besides, doesn't your sister deal with those crazy people every day anyway?"

My mother nodded in agreement. "Right, since Autumn does this for a living, she might as well look at Tyler."

I frowned, disgusted by her referring to my patients as "crazy people."

In my previous life, she had said the same thing.

She said if Tyler had been kept back then, even with his volatile temper, I could have raised him as a psychologist.

After all, he was the Morrison family's only boy. For the sake of continuing the family line, as a Morrison myself, I had an obligation to support him too.

When they tried IVF, which cost a lot of money, they forced me to hand over my entire salary every month and sell my house.

They said I owed them this—I had to take responsibility for this child, for the Morrison family!

But the decision to abort the child was theirs. I only made a suggestion.

Now, I politely declined. "Sarah, children connect better with their parents—communication is easier."

"Psychological counseling can only offer advice and support."

"Besides, I only research criminal genetics. XYY syndrome and criminal genetics are different."

I looked at their darkening faces and smiled. "Our family doesn't have any criminal genetics, right?"
