The XYY Gene Chapter 7
As I'd said, the other party originally only demanded thirty thousand in compensation. Now, including Tyler's vandalism and repair costs, it totaled forty-five thousand.
They also had to pay several thousand in school selection fees to send Tyler to a middle school with a poor reputation.
Now selling the car wasn't enough—they had to sell the house too. The family moved into a cramped rental with big and small bags.
Unexpectedly, they found a school near my practice and left Tyler with me.
Watching Tyler rummage through my files, my assistant said disapprovingly, "Young man, these are confidential materials. You can't look through them casually."
Tyler acted like a thug, shameless. "I'm Auntie's nephew, her real nephew. You're just a whore who serves clients for money. Mind your own business. I'll do whatever I want."
Never having heard such vicious words, my assistant burst into tears.
I gathered the materials and found them, saying with difficulty, "Mom, Sarah, you should take Tyler away."
Looking at my assistant's red-rimmed eyes, Sarah smiled disdainfully. "Tyler already told us. He just said a few words to her. If she's that fragile, why be a counselor?"
I showed them the surveillance footage and sighed. "Mom, it's not that I don't want to keep Tyler. I truly can't."
"He's only been here a few days, and I've already lost a client's eight-thousand-dollar lighter and a forty-five-thousand-dollar Patek Philippe watch. There's no one else in the surveillance—it's clearly Tyler who stole them. Now we have evidence. I can't argue. The other party's demand is compensation at full value."
Sarah's eyes nearly popped out. "An eight-thousand-dollar lighter?"
Hearing about another huge sum, she quickly asked Tyler, "Where are the items?"
Tyler said guiltily he'd lost them.
I sighed. "Now the client is very angry and has reported it to the police. You should quickly pay that fifty-three thousand."
"You should take Tyler away. If this continues, the practice will really go bankrupt. Then I'll have no work and owe a huge debt that you'll have to help me repay."
My brother's face had darkened terribly. "You go bankrupt if you want—why should we help you pay debts?"
I said righteously, "Well, aren't we family? I'm your sister. You should help me pay debts, right?"
My mother couldn't listen anymore. "Autumn, this is your client. Can't you ask them to be flexible? Can that fifty-three thousand... we're all family. Don't be so calculating."
I pretended difficulty. "Mom, they've already reported it to the police. I can't do anything. How about this—I'll continue looking after Tyler for now, but if he causes trouble, I'm not responsible. You'll still have to pay compensation."
The three exchanged glances, afraid Tyler would cause bigger trouble, and could only take him away.
Watching their dejected backs, I kindly reminded them, "Remember to pay that fifty-three thousand!"
