The XYY Gene Chapter 4
"You're opening your own practice?"
Marcus gasped. "You have that much money?"
I shook my head. "The client base is unstable. Right now, maintaining the practice's operations is difficult. I even owe over fifteen thousand in loans."
My mother said angrily, "Why didn't you discuss with us before spending so much money?"
I asked in confusion, "I'm a grown adult, spending my own money on my own career. Do I need to report that to you?"
Without bothering with them further, I packed my things and moved out the next day.
Without bloodsucking relatives, the world truly became beautiful.
But they wouldn't stay so well-behaved for long.
Soon I received a call from my brother, his tone urgent. "Autumn Morrison, Tyler accidentally damaged someone's car, and they want us to pay thirty thousand! We're at the police station now. Go to the bank and withdraw thirty thousand to bail us out!"
His righteousness baffled me. "Have you lost your memory or gone deaf? I told you I still owe fifteen thousand in loans. Where am I supposed to get thirty thousand?"
Marcus panicked and started cursing, saying I had no conscience.
"I don't care. Figure it out. If you have to, sell your car."
"Right, Marcus, you have a car, don't you? You bought it for forty-five thousand. Sell it secondhand for ten or fifteen thousand. Quick, mortgage it and get Tyler out!"
Marcus was furious. "That's my commuter car. How am I supposed to get to work if I sell it?"
A cold smile played at my lips, though my voice remained patient. "At a time like this, you're worried about getting to work?"
"I'd love to help, but didn't I open that practice? I already mortgaged my car. I'm powerless here."
"Marcus, Tyler's still so young and alone at the police station. You can't let him suffer!"
Marcus was completely speechless and angrily hung up.
I leaned back in my executive chair and spun around twice in satisfaction.
Weren't they saying the Morrison line would die without Tyler?
Let's see what's more important—money, or the Morrison family's precious baby boy.
